For some reason this movie scene came into my head today and I was wondering if anyone knew what movie it was from. I saw it when I was a child, so would have been mid to late 1980’s.
All I remember is it was a typical action movie, the goodies were driving a truck with no trailer (something tells me it may have been one of those ‘super-vehicles’ ala Airwolf and KITT that were so popular back then). All I can remember is that they were trying to catch the badguys, one of the characters says, “The quickest route between two points is always a straight line!”, and they take said truck off road and across fields to short-cut the baddies.
Please tell me this isn’t something I just made up!
I don’t remember that scene, but Duel, Maximum Overdrive, Smokey & Bandit, Breaker Breaker, Big Trouble in Little China, mad Max movies, Road Warrior, coast to Coast, Road Games are some big rig movies around that time.
Are you sure it’s a movie and not TV? Because KITT had a truck enemy named Goliath.
I’m 90% sure it was a movie but its been such a long time ago I couldn’t say for sure. I’m also almost certain it wasn’t any of those movies, but thanks for the suggestions.
I’m trying to recall details of the scene, I think the truck was white (not black anyway) and it may have been one of the trucks with the flat front. I remember an overhead shot of the truck racing across the fields, smashing through fences and across ditches etc (even at the time I thought it was fairly silly). It was a fun action movie/tv series, not anything dark and serious.
Check White Line Fever. They used a white Ford COE. I don’t remember that scene, but I’ve kinda tried to forget that movie.
It also had Jan Michael Vincent, for that Airwolf connection.
ETA: If the characters weren’t trying to catch the bad guys, but avoid them, it might have been Hijack, with David Janssen and Keenan Wynn. 1970s vintage White Freightliner COE, mostly white.
