Identify this Movie (truck crossing field!)

For some reason this movie scene came into my head today and I was wondering if anyone knew what movie it was from. I saw it when I was a child, so would have been mid to late 1980’s.

All I remember is it was a typical action movie, the goodies were driving a truck with no trailer (something tells me it may have been one of those ‘super-vehicles’ ala Airwolf and KITT that were so popular back then). All I can remember is that they were trying to catch the badguys, one of the characters says, “The quickest route between two points is always a straight line!”, and they take said truck off road and across fields to short-cut the baddies.

Please tell me this isn’t something I just made up!

I don’t remember that scene, but Duel, Maximum Overdrive, Smokey & Bandit, Breaker Breaker, Big Trouble in Little China, mad Max movies, Road Warrior, coast to Coast, Road Games are some big rig movies around that time.

Are you sure it’s a movie and not TV? Because KITT had a truck enemy named Goliath.

Also, Convoy, Every Which Way But Loose

Romancing the Stone had a truck chase scene that looked like that, but I think the dialogue is all wrong for it to match your op.

“THE Jane Wilder?”

Joan.

Been a while, ya know?

What was that vampire movie? Near Dark, yeah that’s the name. This could have possibly been from that movie, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it.

I’m 90% sure it was a movie but its been such a long time ago I couldn’t say for sure. I’m also almost certain it wasn’t any of those movies, but thanks for the suggestions.

I’m trying to recall details of the scene, I think the truck was white (not black anyway) and it may have been one of the trucks with the flat front. I remember an overhead shot of the truck racing across the fields, smashing through fences and across ditches etc (even at the time I thought it was fairly silly). It was a fun action movie/tv series, not anything dark and serious.

In Die Hard 3 they drove through Central Park

This series had super trucks. The Highwayman (TV series) - Wikipedia

That sounds like something out of the original A Team series.

Dang, there’s a webpage for everything…

Do you remember what sort of truck it was? An articulated lorry? A Transit van? A flat-bed?

The A Team’s truck was black IIRC.

And it was a van

It was this sort of truck, just the tractor with no trailer (it probably had a trailer earlier in the movie but not during that scene)

It’s surprisingly hard to get a decent picture of a flat-fronted truck.

edited to add that it was driving over flat open fields, like the American mid-west (I’m not of the American ilk so that may be incorrect)

Wow, as AncientHumanoid says there’s a webpage for everything these days!

Ah… I see the type* clearly now. No scenes come to mind from my movie/TV watching.

*Cabover is the identifying term.

Smokey and the Bandit style pictured here

Ah, thank you!

Check White Line Fever. They used a white Ford COE. I don’t remember that scene, but I’ve kinda tried to forget that movie.

It also had Jan Michael Vincent, for that Airwolf connection.

ETA: If the characters weren’t trying to catch the bad guys, but avoid them, it might have been Hijack, with David Janssen and Keenan Wynn. 1970s vintage White Freightliner COE, mostly white.

Maximum Overdrive?

And yeah, cabovers are what you’re looking for.

Don’t think so, unless you include the trailer.
