I’ve done a search on Google and looked on wikipedia and IMDB and come up fruitless, but I know the SDMB usually never lets anyone down.
When I was 12, I watched “Big Blue Marble” and fell in love with the voice and song “Closer” that was the later theme of the show. I also had a major crush on the girl who appeared to be singing it. In the opening sequence, she’s the girl in this clip at 1:16.
Also, I am thinking she’s the first and last singer in the ending theme (regardless, I had a crush on her whether it’s the same girl in the opening or not):
At the 0:12 mark in the second clip, the vocals are listed as being performed by “Whitney.”
Does anyone know who this girl was? Did she go on to any other fame? Where was she from? What was her fate?
I love that song, too. Brings back wistful memories of being eight years old, having an interest in kids’ lives in other parts of the world. I never noticed the babe until you just now pointed her out, though.
Anyway…I have the LP at my mother’s house, and I’ll be visiting there in early October, so if her name is on there, I’ll let you know in a month. But, chances are another Doper can tell you sooner than that (or, you’ll track it down yourself, somewhere on the information superhighway).
