Idiots who insert political comments in non-political topics

The problem is that a lot of people are themselves quite depressed with what’s going on. The current political situation does seem absolutely crazy to a lot of people who thought that “it couldn’t happen here.” I get why it came up, though I also get why no one really wants to talk about it in a fun thread.

Considering the date of 1985, the obvious parallel with Back to the Future is already there, and Trump can be brought in easily enough without going on a big rant about it in the thread.

Yeah, this happens a lot here. Even when the thread is clearly marked non-political. Some people just can’t ever let it go. We’ve got an entire category for politics and it’s still not enough for some people. I can’t imagine going around with just politics on your mind 24 hours a day.

Actually, this is the only place where I read anyone’s comments about anything, right or left. I find it’s much better to just skip random comment sections any other place I read. Not worth the time.

Years ago I was checking a wealthy looking WASPy couple in and she looked at the reg card and said “oh, you charge a resort fee? Thanks, Obama! Nice to know THIS is how we’re paying for Obamacare!!!” in a really nasty tone of voice.

I just stared at her and was all “um. No”.

And for the record I hate resort fees but I’m not the owner.

Is it okay to insert political comments into non-political topics if you’ve got an IQ greater than 20?

This thing with people who never had a political thought in their life not being able to go five minutes without turning whatever the topic may be into a political argument began years ago before Obama’s election, and it’s just gotten worse thanks to T—p and right-wing media. Maybe a dozen years ago I was a member of a Facebook group that was local people talking about growing up locally and the people and places they remembered. It was a very happy group of friendly strangers. Then one day one member essentially said that we’d still have something (I don’t know what) were it not for Obama and those Democrats. Within an hour this previously friendly group was at each other’s throats. I intervened as the voice of reason and suggested we make this a group in which politics was verboten. Everyone agreed, but a week later, that same guy was at it again. I very publicly quit the group and never looked at it again.

Let’s be honest here. It’s gotten worse thanks to political pundits, politicians and news media across the board on both sides of the aisle.

Sorry, but I couldn’t quite hear that dog whistle. Maybe if you were driving a car at me…

So which one of those two sentences are you promoting?

A cousin of mine can make wiping your butt political. He will claim it’s Biden’s fault the toilet paper didn’t get his butt clean enough and it’s Patty Murray’s fault his underwear has skid marks.

Wow. Whose fault is it that he pooped in the first place?

Of course, this would cease to be a problem once we abolished capitalism and the state and lived in anarchs-syndicalist communes.

Some A-hole. Speaking of Trump…

Okay, I’ll bite – what does this have to do with the OP?

The idiot who inserted the political comment:

Nvm old thread

Old? Are you implying that Joe is senile? It never fucking ends.

This is my relative who always finds fault with him for just about everything that goes wrong. Just this week it’s their dog has the shits because of Trudeau (why? Because according to them he banned their favored brand of Fido chow.)

They’re a Piece of work you’re welcome to them Ontario.

Did you dare delve into the depths of delusions to determine why they decided he did this?

The ones who do this are (mostly) the ones who spend all day with an RW propaganda spew going on. Fox News is on the TV in the background, they’re streaming Hannity’s vid-blog to their phone, etc. Literally all day that noise is being injected into their brains.

So pretty quickly it comes to dominate control their thoughts. Everything is seen in the propagandish light of “X happened, and here’s how the Evil Enemy made that so.” For any/all possible X.

It’s fun to think that way. For a certain delusion-addicted sort of mind and a certain childish but bullying definition of “fun”.
