IE homepage Hijacked to MSHP.Index page

My homepage in IE6 is constantly being updated to some page with MSHP.Index in the address. It’s not porn or anythnig - it’s just annoying.

I’ve read that a program called cwshredder.exe can solve this problem.

Is this sound advice or will I cause more damage with this course of action?

Yes, CWShredder is a good program for removing spyware. You should also run Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware.

CWShredder will fix the problem if it is caused by CoolWebSearch. However, it will do no harm to your system if you run CWShredder anyway; if it’s something else, nothing will be changed.

You should download and install Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware to try cleaning for other problems. Be sure to update the definition.

  1. Use any of the previously mentioned programs to locate and delete any spyware you may have.

  2. Make sure you have an up-to-date anti-virus program installed and configured. Be sure to run it regularly.

  3. Dump IE for Mozilla or FireFox. You will experience much safer and faster web surfing, not to mention a host of other great, free benefits.

I’ll give it a shot tonight - thanks for the info!
