IE "status bar" keeps going away! ARG!

Several times every day I find myself having to go up and click the “View” menu then check the “Status bar” option. Then a few hours later, lo and behold, the status bar is again missing and I must do it again.

Why is it doing this and how can I force it to stay “my way”?

Opal,

Take a look at MS’s knowledge base. They offer a few suggestions. Here is a link to a KB article.

Thanks. I’ll see if that does the trick… sigh

OpalCat - it’s not just you. My status bar is forever playing hide and seek with me.

I’ll try the suggestion of right-clicking a toolbar and selecting Lock Toolbars to see if that helps the thing stay where it belongs.

God I have the same problem. Annoying as hell.

Try this:

First, close all IE windows.
Then, open a new IE window.
Go to View and check Status Bar.
The status bar will appear. Now close that window.
All new windows you open will have the status bar enabled.

The problem is that IE keeps the settings of the last IE window you close. If the last window was without a status bar (for example a pop-up), all new windows will be the same.

Dog80: that’s what I’ve been doing all along. It doesn’t last. I know the status bar goes away even when I haven’t clicked on any sort of popup or other specially-generated windows… it just goes away on its own at times. I always do what you described, but it only lasts for a while.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never seen this. I’m running win2k, IE 6.0.2800.1106IS (the latest version).

It worked yesterday,
but it does not work today.
Windows is like that.
