Well, I’m happy because there are a whole buncha Dopers in town for Las Dopefest. And I get to meet them. Mwa ha ha!
Also, I get to fly out to Texas on Thursday to meet yet another Doper with whom things might just work out…
And then, Halloween is coming! Whoo and hoo, indeed.
In the news of simpler pleasures, I got enough sleep last night, and, as has been mentioned, it’s Friday. I couldn’t even come into work this weekend since our computers are going to be down so we can switch servers.
Ahh, you’re right, Gazelle from Hell, life is pretty damn good.
I’m happy because my trip to Disneyworld is less than a month away; because buy.com shipped both my 128MB SmartCard and rechargable batteries for my new digital camera today, and I ordered them yesterday; because I can go home in 2.5 hours; because no one is here in the office practically and I can surf the Internet without getting caught; and because we’re playing D&D tomorrow and it’s our blowout session for the year.
Baby tlw is finally sleeping through the night on a consistent basis. Yahoo!
My sister-in-law in the DC area is going to be working away from the city for the next three weeks at least, therefore sparing her from the #(!*$ sniper.
I’m going to dinner with my girlfriends tonight, at our favorite restaurant in the city. I plan to eat enough antipasto and fettucine to choke a horse, and I’ll top it all off with the best tiramisu anywhere on the Eastern Seaboard.
It’s now official - Mr. tlw is retiring as of January 2. Early retirement rules!
I’m in Balto with my sweetie - a long-weekend conjugal visit. And as if that wasn’t enough, we spent the day in Annapolis at the Sailboat Show. We got rained on and my feet are achy, but it was a day out of work and I was with my sweetie, and now we’re back on our boat and it’s dry and warm and we had some Boston Cream Pie.
Baltimore is a blast, FairyChatMom… my sister-in-law (sometimes from Hell) lives there.
Well, as Friday is winding down, I would like to thank each and every Doper who either participated in this thread or looked at it without rolling their eyes.
Have a wonderful weekend, my dear good friends.
BSL, GfH
I’m happy because I had a good day at work and got alot done, even though it tired me out. I’m also happy because tomorrow is my birthday (woo hoo! I made it another year!). Even though I have to work all day, I’ll still enjoy it. I have two good friends that are about to have babies this weekend, my hasn’t broken down this week, we are getting some much needed rain, and I have nine dollars to spend on beer tonight. Life is good
My roommate has hooked up with my obsession girl from this summer! And I’m happy for both of them! She’s a sweet girl, he’s a good man! He’s a few years younger than me, she’s a few years too young for me!
I am good friends with the Obsession Girl, which I have never done before! I have to see her as a sister now that she & Roommate have hooked up.
I think the reason I’m OK with this is that a really pretty girl started flirting with me in NA meetings around the same time Roommate & Obsession Girl started dating. Maybe we’ll go out double or something.
Friday is my Tuesday, so that doesn’t enter the equasion.
Hubby and I both have the weekend off. Hubby’s birthday is Monday, so we can celebrate two straight days! Mondays are usually hell at work due to the immense amount of mail to open, but this Monday is Columbus Day! No mail! I can actually enjoy a weekend without dreading going back to work!
…and I’m 4 beers down, that helps.
WOO-HOO (with fists over head in triumph)
I’m happy because The Seeds of Death is coming out on DVD in 2003 and I can get my hands on a copy - as I have been waiting for for five years.
I’m happy because it’s the first weekend of term and I can have a lazy, catching-up-on-missed-sleep Saturday.
I’m happy because the youth night last night simply ROCKED. Only three of us showed up (and four of the youth leaders) because on the same night there was tennis, footy, a disco and a party, and the school camp for one grade had just ended so they were all asleep. So the seven of us just had fun behaving like absolute idiots, eating as much as we could of the 8 litres of ice cream we’d bought for the expected larger turnout, racing Myles (a triathlete, who both of us young’uns beat - although I suspect he let us) and playing the lamest games we knew, including ‘spoons’ and ‘banana hunt’. It was ace.
It’s not Friday anymore, but I’m happy because:

[li]My aunty and uncle and cousins recently got back from a trip to Europe; they went to the Croatian island where my grandfather (who died two years ago, and who was one of the most wonderful people in the world) was born and brought me back photos and prezzies. Sentimental, I know, but it makes me happy to have some earrings and a little bottle of lavender oil from there.[/li][li]I handed in my last essay for the year yesterday.[/li][li]I got a definite offer of a research place for next year in the lab I want to work in.[/li][li]I got my tax return. 650 smackos from the guvmint! Woohoo![/li][li]I have a cool new coffee table book about orang-utans with lots of beautiful piccies. It was written by the amazing orang-utan guy at the Perth Zoo, and has lots of great stories about all the orangs at the zoo.[/li][li]My dad and I have decided to go on a horseback trek in the Blue Mountains next year. This is a double happy because not only do I get to go on a cool holiday, but it gives me an excuse to have riding lessons.[/li][/ul]
Yay!
[sub]Exams? In four weeks? No, surely not![/sub]
I’m happy because I gave up on wanting to stay out of debt and applied for a student loan, having spent the last eight months being too poor to do ANYTHING (like catch the bus to university) and yesterday I got the first of my weekly loan installments, BACKDATED FOUR WEEKS! It was over five hundred dollars, and I know I’ll have to pay it back (dam government) but still…wow. I took a bunch of my friends out to dinner, which was great fun, and now I’ll be able to go roadtripping round the country this summer. Plus I have a job interview on monday…
Okay, so it’s Monday, and we’re not supposed to be happy anymore…but I am! I learned to play craps this weekend. I drank and ate, and drank and ate, and drank and ate. Dopers are as cool as I knew they would be.
All this, and I get to go on vacation this weekend! Woo!
