Everyone talks about Cory Booker like he’s some sort of democratic goldenboy, and maybe to most people he is. But every time I’ve come across him on a show like real time with Bill Maher he seems like an even MORE careful version of Hillary.
He will only ever say what is expected of him or comes across as reasonable to most people, and the moment a correct answer deviates from the polite and PC answer, he dodges like you would not believe.
Case in point, on Bill Mahers show relatively recently.
It's like a double dose of milquetoast commentary, and in some of these matters, Trump actually comes across as more refreshing because he is not dancing around his views (whether they are faked views or not, he comes out and says them with full force).
ugh, at least Biden had moments where he’d give a gaffe and let out what he actually thinks about the world. This guy is a robot, and people are finding robots less and less compelling these days.
good point. I really, REALLY, want Hillary to move to the center on Muslim refugees and radical Islam. Hence why I want a centrist VP pick for her. I wish Joe Manchin could be on her ticket, but since that state went from Carter and Clinton twice, and even Dukakis, to strong GOP, not gonna happen.
Booker may be a good possibility down the road, both for President or Vice-President, but right now I’d be astonished if he was selected for VP. He’s just not quite there. My opinion has nothing to do with his appearance as a “robot” to some people.
I don’t think the center means what you think it does. Syrian refugees pose no threat to us and nattering on about “radical Islam” does nothing helpful and indeed would threaten relations with moderate Muslim nations.
Cory Booker would be a poor choice, as Hillary already stands to do very well with black voters. I’m warming to the idea of Bernie, that would ramp up the youth vote and help Democrats downticket and get that gavel back in Pelosi’s hands where it belongs.
Oh she’s allowed to disagree as long she does whatever he says regardless. I think DerekMichaels would be happy with a Constitutional amendment that gave Israel’s Prime Minister jurisdiction over American Middle East policy.
yes, but what Obama does, publicly treat Netanyahu worse than dictators/despots, is not OK. Hillary has shown over her career and campaigns (including this one) that Obama’s foreign policy folly will likely not be repeated.
That is the most demonic smiley face I’ve seen, I just noticed it. Look at those enlarged black eyes, like staring into the depths of a black hole where no light shall ever escape. Darkness squared.
I like Cory Booker a lot. He is a pretty polished and careful politician, but from what I’ve read and heard he was a terrific (very hard working and compassionate) mayor of Newark, he’s been a fine Senator, and I think he’d be a very good VP and eventual Presidential candidate.
It occurred to me that Hillary might tap Booker for VP, but I don’t think she will. New Jersey will likely be in her pocket anyway. My guess is that she will look to the west, where her numbers might not be as strong.
Not that I care one way or another about Booker, but what does this actually mean? People say it a lot about politicians, but it seems to me like a purely subjective and arbitrary statement.
Whether Cory is milquetoast on television has only a small effect on his suitability for the Presidency. The OP seems misguided to me.
According to Brad DeLong, the President puts in roughly 90 hours a week. 30 are ceremonial. 30 involve coalition maintenance. And 30 are devoted to policy. Maybe he addresses a dozen topics a week. That is what should concern us. Not their TV jabber chops.
Trump in contrast contradicts himself at every turn and is shockingly ignorant of public policy. In the past he’s managed a small team of yes men and women. I don’t trust someone who delves into anti-vax and birther conspiracy theories. Just because we are used to his shtick by now does not imply that it deserves any sort of respect. Just today he implied that it would be ok to renegotiate our debt, just as he renegotiated with banks after he drove his businesses into the ground. A Trump Presidency would test our institutions as they never have in the past.
The New York real estate tycoon, who frequently boasted throughout the primary that he was financing his campaign, is setting up a national fundraising operation and taking a hands-off posture toward super PACs.
He is expressing openness to raising the minimum wage, a move he previously opposed, saying on CNN this week, “I mean, you have to have something that you can live on.”
And Trump is backing away from a tax plan he rolled out last fall that would give major cuts to the rich. “I am not necessarily a huge fan of that,” he told CNBC. “I am so much more into the middle class, who have just been absolutely forgotten in our country.”
[/INDENT] If his base thinks that this guy’s policies will magically land in their favor, they are pretty gullible.
I don’t think it’ll be Sanders. A 68 year old presidential candidate isn’t going to choose a 74 year old running mate. In fact if Trump wasn’t 69, you’d see Clinton’s age being used as a major issue.
