If I say the name Archie...

  1. Manning
  2. #8 for New Orleans
  3. #18 for Ole Miss
  4. Peyton’s Dad
  5. Eli’s Dad

Archie Andrews was the “lead singer” and namesake of The Archies.

  1. Bunker
  2. McPhee
  3. Goodwin
Then, because of how my brain works, Archduke Ferdinand.

I thought of Goodwin, then Bunker, then Archie Campbell from the Louisa May Alcott books, then Archie Andrews.

One-track mind, huh?

My priority:

Andrews
Bunker
Goodwin

  1. Archie MacDonald from the tv series Monarch of the Glen
  2. Arch MacDonald, who was a local tv personality here in Boston
  3. Archie Andrews
  4. Archie Leach = Cary Grant
  5. Archy Leach = John Cleese in Wanda
  6. Archie Bunker
  7. Archie Goodwin
  8. archy the cockroach
  1. Archie Bunker
  2. Archie Andrews
  3. archy the cockroach

Andrews, then Goodwin, then Bunker.

I’ll be damned! The first one I thought of was Archie Bell (of the Drells!)
Then Archie Andrews
Then Archie Manning
Then Archie Bunker

Griffin. 'Course, I’m in the heart of Buckeye country, so you’ll have that.

Oh see, now you’re just being silly. Archie Andrews was a cartoon character. Ron Dante was the lead singer for the chart-topping pop group, The Archies. Geez, next you’ll be telling me that The Monkees weren’t a real group.

Seriously, I read the OP’s question and the freckle-faced Andrews popped into my head, followed almost immediately by the audio track. I figured they qualified as separate pop entities under the question, and besides, I had no idea who that Goodwin chap was – if I’d left out The Archies, I’d have been obligated to throw some damn “Opal” line in.

Why do so many of you know who Archie Goodwin is if he’s such an obscure character? Is it because Archie is such a rare name in the US?

I think it’s more that the average Doper is more likely to be a fan of Nero Wolfe than the general population…

  1. Andrews
  2. archy the cockroach
  3. The villain in the book “The Chocolate War”
  4. Bunker (before my time)

Manning.

Mostly because all of the prominent people named Archie are at least a generation before my time and/or completely out of my spheres of interest, but I’m a football fan so I pick that one up 'cause of his evil children.

Honestly, I hear “Archie” and I immediately think “Kennedy”, from the Horatio Hornblower movies and books.

After that, I think of the cartoon guy, and then Bunker.

Maybe so, but it’s still pretty impressive for a character conceived and introduced over seventy years ago.

Goodwin, then Tuttle.

First thought was “& Veronica” - so Andrews
then Leach
Bunker didn’t happen until after I was reminded.

Archie McPhee;
Then the comic book Archie;
Then Archie Manning.
