If it "disgusts" you and is not your concern, then why open the thread and reply?

This will be fairly mild, I’m sure. It’s far too early in the morning to just throw out “fuckwit” and “goat felcher” all willy nilly, so I’m not even going to try.

Inspired by my Cafe Society thread about Alec Baldwin. It was Menocchio’s response that made me want to reply, but this is hardly an attack on him/her specifically. I’ve seen the attitude I’m talking about all over this board.

I’ll begin by saying that I’m in no way directing this towards those with opinions on the topic that differ from my own- after all, it’s that kind of discourse and exchange that makes this place wonderful, (hopefully) teaches us all some things, and (maybe!) makes us all a little better for the road. To those of you that in every thread can come in and post an intelligent albeit different response than my own, thank you. There have been many times I’ve actually had my mind changed about particular topics (one that comes to mind is polygamy, actually) and learned quite a bit in the process.

But I digress.

This is about those of you that find it absolutely necessary to be thread shitters.

I get it, not everybody is into celebrity gossip/whatever the topic du jure is and a good chunk of you might actually find the celebrity culture shameful, disgusting, whatever. That’s cool. We’re all different and I’m sure you’re into something that I consider horribly stupid as well. That’s life, right? Neither of us are necessarily right or wrong, blah blah peace and happiness blah blah. Ok.

That said, why on earth do posters (like Menocchio in the above example) find it necessary to pop in and tell us all every reason why they are disgusted by the topic at hand? Congrats! You’re better than everyone because you are above that petty celebrity gossip. It disgusts you and is absolutely none of your concern. Fabulous!

But guess what? Some of us are interested in it. So rather than coming in and shitting in the middle of the thread about how above this type of childish discourse you are, why not just stay out of it? When I consider something disgusting or none of my damned business, I don’t get involved- let alone consider a well-thought out, well-worded response. There are plenty of OPs I read around here that just make me stare wide eyed at the screen for a moment, shake my head, and hit the close button.

Like I said, this isn’t just within celebrity gossip posts, but that seems to be where I’ve noticed it the most lately, you goat-felching fuckwits. (I figured I’d try to get one in as my coffee has started to kick in).

Yeah, I was recently a fuckwit, and I apologize to everyone involved. It wasn’t my intent to derail, but to explain why the thread was already going badly, but that wasn’t really appropriate, either. Skip Magic set me straight (or straightish) and knocked me off my soapbox and rightly so. I should have emailed or PMed the OP with my opinions instead of derailing the already struggling thread.

So, sorry to derail *your *rant with an apology, but there you go. I was a fuckwit, and I apologize.

I love you anyway, WhyNot. We’re still going to use your child and my friend’s child to swindle Britney’s millions in a gay baby love affair. It’ll be fantastic. We’ll have Ferrari’s. People can start threads about us as we stagger out of clubs in Hollywood at all hours of the night. It’ll be great.

I really don’t have anything to say about this. I don’t really care about thread-shitting. Now goat felching, that’s something I can get on top of, but the topic of the OP? Does nothing for me.

 *

(Although you’d get the sarcasm anyway, I’m not too sure about others, hence the wink)

I’m pretty sure you have to be on top when it comes to goat felching. I mean, unless you’re really limber.

Yes, but is it something you can get behind? Because it tends to work better like that.

I understand what you are saying and I agree with you. When someone posts about an episode of a TV show and someone jumps in to say the show is stupid that’s idiotic.

That isn’t what happened in this case. Menocchio wasn’t posting to say stop talking about celebrities like you know them, or something like that. He/she seemed to be saying don’t judge Baldwin based on a leaked tape. I sort of agree with that. I don’t really see that as thread shitting.

So I agree with you in general, but not in this case. And WhyNot, I don’t see that you did anything wrong in that thread.

Just popping in to say that I agree completely with Caridwen’s post above.

Cardiwen and Sal Ammoniac, whenever someone starts a “What about the children” thread, you must bemoan the plight of the poor children or be met with derision.

Glad to hear that. I always overall have enjoyed your posts and when I read your response in that thread I was a little peeved off myself at you. I totally understand your issue with the person at hand–but I felt you shit all over her thread. You either should have taken it to the Pit–or just ignored her thread. Just because ‘you’ have issues there doesn’t mean ALL participants would. The thread should either live or die on its own without bringing into it something that wasn’t relevant. Hell I almost started a pitting of you over it, but then decided I didn’t care ‘that’ much about it.

So I am happy to read that you understood your post was out of line for that forum. It is what irritates me about few posters here in the Pit who is always trying to change the Pit to be all puppies and kittens. The pit is the place for that anger to come out, that way the other forums aren’t covered with that vile.

Don’t forget to wear your underoos!

I hate threadshitting. I read through that thread and I thought the post in question was well written and belonged right were it is. There was a differing viewpoint but I don’t think it was a thread shit.

Oh, you know damn well it was hardly that kind of thread. I wasn’t screeching, “WONT SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?” but rather just amazed that anyone would so stupidly put themselves in a position like that in regard to a child, let alone a celebrity. Hell, if he had cussed out his assistant like that and it got online it would still be moderately disturbing.

And JohnT I will do NO SUCH THING. burns underwear

I’m going to have to go back and read the thread because I might have misunderstood WhyNot’s post. I admit I have a tendency to skim posts while doing two other things so maybe I misread. The way I saw it a few other people got a little snarky because of who started the thread. **WhyNot ** flat out said what was going on and why and not to do it. If anything, she seemed to be trying to get other posters off the OP’s back. Am I wrong?

Wow, I’m lost. Could I get a link to your post? I went through the thread that the OP linked over 3 times and couldn’t find your post anywhere in it. Could you point me in the right direction, please?

I think it was in this thread

Hakuna Matata It wasn’t exactly the way I remembered it. :o

:smack: Sorry, I didn’t think to link to my fuckwittery, which is not in the OP’s link but a different thread, 'cause the OP already knew which thread I was referring to. Different thread, still fuckwittery, although I acknowledge and am grateful to those who don’t think it was out of place. Obviously you “get” where I was coming from, but the fact remains that it was inappropriate because others didn’t get it and were disturbed/offended/bothered by it. I was not intententionally threadshitting, but I let out an unintentional Hershey’s threadsquirt that would have been better placed in the Loo that is the Pit (or private exchange), and the apology is a sincere one.

Anyhoo…the thread I threadshat in is the Rumer Willis one, emphasis on Posts 26 and 34.

I agree with the OP - I hate threadshitting too.

takes a big, fat steaming dump on the thread

If we’re being serious though, I hate it too. Not that that stops me from doing it sometimes :smack:

People like to derail threads because humans are cynical by nature. It’s just life. Some people turn out nice and some turn out jerks. There’s not much you can do about it unless we become a place of mutually assured destruction.

There is no love in this world, only an illusion.
