Is there a usage of this phrase before the SNL episode with Kyle MacLachlan?

Sorry no cite but I seem to recall Mike Myers saying that he was inspired by a visit to a scottish/celtic/whatever shop in the martimes while on vacation with his wife.

I remember it being “If it’s not scottish, it’s crap!” but I could be wrong. (:
