Oh squeegee. That’s awful. I’m so sorry.
Well, as my spouse likes to say as we watch sports, “It ain’t over until it’s over”. As we still have a few days left in the year for something to happen (knock wood!), I may be premature in saying, COVID aside, 2020 has been a rather good year.
It’s tough to identify good vs. bad, because most things have aspects of “on the one hand, but on the other hand”.
Definitely good - Male child and girlfriend got jobs and moved out. It’s great to see them moving on with life. And, it improves household finances.
Mixed - Minor bummer that we lost out on a planned cruise vacation. But all the money was refunded.
Mixed - My job. I was a consultant doing project work. The last project ended in March, just when COVID ramped up. I stayed on the books until August, but no new work appeared. So, I looked at my finances and took the leap and retired (early). I was planning on working a few more years, but OK. Well, totally unexpected, the stock market has been going gangbusters. So, my retirement account investment choices have grown way way beyond any expectations. Retirement is looking like it might work out, moneywise.
Mixed - Trump vs. Biden election. Still waiting to see it all be done with. I fear that there are still more shoes to drop and nonsense to live through. And some portion of my fellow Americans seem to be suffering from a form of mass delusional hysteria. I don’t see that going away soon.
On a personal level, yes, lousy year. Mainly for health reasons, all non-COVID related. I spent a week in the hospital in June. My wife spent two weeks in the hospital in July. Then she was hospitalized again in October and is still in the TICU two plus months later. Also I lost my health insurance, so there’s been a pretty big financial hit as well.
So yeah, a remarkably bad year even without COVID. But COVID makes it that much worse.
At least Biden won.
