I was reading a post about the myth of the use of saltpeter for keeping the male sex drive down.
OK then this is my question ???
What can be used (safely) to shut off the mail sex drive???
This would be short of castration!!!
I’ve heard marriage works pretty well.
Lots of anti-depressants have negative side effect in the libido area.
certain hormones like progesterone can do this.
So can certain antidepressants like the SSRIs.
The effect is temporary, limited to the time one is on the drug.
But you’ll need to check with your doc for either of those.
The shut down the male sex drive pretty well. With that done, you should have no trouble shutting down the mail sex drive either.

Just remove your mailbox. The post office will stop delivering your subscription to “Black Tail” magazine, and you’ll be set.
Saltpetre works great for reducing the sex drive. Just not internally.
What you do is mix it with charcoal, lightly dust your testicles with it, and strike a match.
Overheard in a bar. True story.
Sot 1 to Sot 2 (a 70 year old retired regular Army guy): “Did that saltpeter they put in you guys’ food work?”
Sot 2 “It didn’t work then but it’s sure as hell workin’ now.”
An ugly woman?
I believe the OP requested a solution short of castration.
Well, only revtim even attempted a serious reply to the OP.
Most antidepressants that belong to the class of selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) – like Paxil, Prozac, and the others you see advertised on TV — have a notable side effect of killing the libido. But this is not a reliable effect.
Others, notably wellbutrin, are advertised as not interfering with the sex drive.
Some people consider recreational drugs, notably valium and opiates, will diminish libido, but again, this is not universal. If the user is conditioned to respond sexually while under the influence, then one conditioned effect of the drug may be to spark the sexual drive. (For instance, many LSD users consider the idea of sex repulsive while under the effect, but I was introduced to it by a woman who used it to make love all night… and all day. Therefore, I cannot take any hallucinogenics without getting completely randy…)
Kellogg’s cereals were originally marketed as a healthy food that diminished the sexual response and tendency towards masturbation in adolescents, but there are many of us who can debunk that claim.
Kurt Vonnegut wrote in his novel “Welcome to the Monkey House” about a prudish society that made everyone take a pill that numbed them from the waist down, in order to eliminate sexuality. I imagine if you gave everyone epidurals, though, it still wouldn’t completely eliminate the urge to reproduce. (And that, in part, was the point of Vonnegut’s story.)
The only widely accepted universal way to eliminate the libido in men is chemical or physical castration. The effect is to eliminate testosterone from the bloodstream. I imagine an alternative way would be to devise some sort of testosterone receptor blocker, or possibly more reliably, a testosterone buffer which preferentially latches on to the hormone molecule and prevents it from having its normal effect.
In other words, No. You gotta cut 'em off…
As for whether or not a hormone blockers or antagonists would be completely effective in women… have there ever been any definitive studies in women that prove the roles of testosterone vs. estrogen in libido?
However, some antidepressants will destroy the ability to achieve physical release, but not the desire to do so. A friend (okay, this is only a single anecdote) was on Paxil for a while, and could not get an erection nor masturbate to orgasm. Nothing. But the desire to do so was still there (and this guy is usually a 4-5X/day guy). He wasn’t very happy about it.
I beg your pardon?
bromide is also said to quench ones drive and was rumoured to be put in the soldiers tea to stop them taking their mind off their job.
I suspect that both saltpeter and bromide will lower the sex drive, in so far as both are not very good for you, and will probably make you feel a bit sick
Propecia/Proscar aka. Finasteride the hair regrowth/prostate health drug is known to absolutely destroy the libido in some users.
Of course, long-term users also occasionally suffer from gynecomastia… aka… massive man-boobies.
So what was saltpeter’s purported effect? Decreased libido or inability to achieve erections?
I always heard that orange M & Ms would do the trick.

An asprin is said to work well too… if held firmly between the woman’s knees.
Sorry – I was interrupted during posting and failed to check for other posts after previewing.

Blood preasure medication can really sap the lead out of your pencil. Not sure how safe it would be to use as a chemical cold shower, though.
My doc has me on Vasotec, which hasn’t affected me negatively. But some of the other BP meds out there can be a real embarrassment in a bottle. Some of it kills the sex drive outright, others just dull the sword.
And then there’s Viagra. My doctor loves to tell the (apocryphal?) tale of the initial clinical testing for Sildanefil Citrate. They gave the stuff to a bunch of institutionalized seniors with high blood pressure and soon discovered that all the old geezers were suddenly running around with stiffies that wouldn’t go away. (It seems they weren’t too sure about the effective dose yet, so they were administering two or three times the necessary amount to induce erection.)
And it lowered blood pressure to boot.
Real popular stuff in the old folks’ home, I would imagine! Reminds me of the first act from Cocoon, when the fellas were heading back home from the pool.
