Among Democratic constituents blacks are usually described as disliking homosexuals. But do they dislike them enough to refuse voting for a black Democrat?

So we’ve had the rumour he is not American, we’ve had the rumour that he is Muslim, now we have the rumour he is gay. Can we just get on with the rumours he’s a drug addict and pedophile already? I’d hate to think there anything that’s been missed.

Cheating in what sense? Being gay does not necessarily mean actually having sex regularly (or ever) with someone of the same sex.
Announcing it now while in office would most definitely cost him the re-election, and possibly the Dem. nomination.
It would not be posed as a homosexual issue either, but one of honesty and integrity. Even though we all know it WOULD be about his being gay, everyone could take cover with the “he’s been lying to his wife, how could we as a nation trust him?”
I can see political opponents burying him easily on this one.

Just for clarification, how does he explain his middle name if he isn’t muslim? Was his father a muslim and exposed him to that religion as a child, or does he claim no affiliation at all with the muslim religion? What religion is he claiming to be? (as you can tell, I couldn’t care less about his religion unless he was some kind of a zealot.)
I thought the OP’s linked allegation was that Obama was frequenting a gay bathhouse. But maybe he was only visiting for the articles.
I assume you are not joking, although you may be. Hussein is just an extremely common male given name in many parts of the world. You could as easily ask why I have numerous friends called Peter, Mark, Matthew and John even though they are atheist.
It was his father’s middle name and (I believe) his paternal grandfather’s middle name, too. It’s a family tradition. Barack Obama, Sr., was raised a Muslim but was an atheist or agnostic by the time the President was born. President Obama converted to Christianity as an adult and for most of his adult life has attended the United Church of Christ, which falls somewhere between Presbyterianism and Congregationalism theologically.

President Obama was raised in a non-religious household–his mother was basically non-religious as well–and converted to Christianity as an adult. President Obama has never been a Muslim–he went from being a nonbeliever to being a (liberal) Christian.
Hussein isn’t a Muslim name, so even if that type of question made sense generally, it wouldn’t make sense specifically in this case.

Missed edit window: Actually, it kind of is a Muslim name. I didn’t realize there was a grandson of Mohammed named Hussein who seems to be the reason for the name’s popularity. I thought it was just a generic name with Arab origins. (It still doesn’t make sense for someone to “explain” their name for that reason, though. Names don’t cause religious beliefs.)
Hussein isn’t an exclusively Muslim name, but it is closely associated with the broader culture of the Islamic world, in the same way Paul (or Pablo or Pavel) is with the broader Christian world. (Etymologically speaking, it’s an Arabic but not an explicity Islamic name–it basically just means “handsome”, so it’s not like “Abdullah” or “Saif al-Islam” or anything like that.)
There is, of course, a perfectly straightforward explanation for how a guy who is a member of the United Church of Christ came by “Hussein” as a middle name, which explanation does not involve crypto-Muslim conspiracies to take over the world and impose Socialist Sharia on America.

Obama has a middle name of Hussein because he’s named after his father. His father had a middle name of Hussein because his father’s (adopted) first name was Hussein:
So Obama’s grandfather decided when he was an adult to become a Muslim and to adopt Hussein as his first name. He then gave his son (Obama’s father) the middle name Hussein. Although Obama’s father was at least nominally raised as a Muslim, he soon decided that he was an atheist. In any case, Obama’s father and mother’s marriage broke up so soon that Obama hardly knew his father at all.
If you want to make any argument at all about what religion Obama was raised in, you would have to look at the people who actually raised him. He was mostly raised by his mother, Ann Dunham:
She probably considered herself an agnostic who (as an anthropologist) was vaguely interested in religion. She certainly didn’t raise either Obama or his sister in any religion. Obama was also raised by his mother’s parents, who were brought up as Christians but didn’t apparently have much religious beliefs themselves. Obama’s stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, was a nominal Muslim, but he didn’t live with Obama very long and there’s no evidence that he brought him up in any religion. So basically Obama was brought up by people who didn’t attempt to instill any definite religious beliefs in him.
