If only all computer game reviews were like this

If you haven’t already done so, check out Yahtzee Crowshaw’s reviews at the Escapist - the column is called Zero Punctuation . His reviews are short videos narrated by him at high speed - they’re hilarious as well as slightly leftfield, even though they don’t follow the traditional structure of a game review by giving a score or examining different elements of the game in a systematic way. I’m hooked and now will be eagerly awaiting Wednesday afternoons for each new review.

Seconded.

I actually went out and bought Psychonauts based on his retroactive review.
Plus I’m trying ways to add “craven douche” to my everyday speech patterns

Holy cow, this is actually funny. Now what? Bugger, I’ve watched them all already! More! He shouldn’t restrict himself to video games, either. I think I want this guy reviewing the rest of my cultural sphere as well. Should be a hoot having him talk about classical literature.

Oh, and I’m so getting Psychonauts.

I also got psychonauts based on his review given that it was only $19.95 on Steam (halve that due to the ever decreasing value of the dollar against the pound). Also bought an even cheaper copy of it from Ebay for my two brothers for xmas, should keep them entertained.

I love his reviews. I downloaded the first Paper Mario based on his recommendation and haven’t regretted it a moment.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be getting back to my life, which has a plot as twisted and impenetrable as a concrete octopus…

I have tears running down my cheeks watching his Assassin’s Creed review. The Orange Box was good as was FEAR: Perseus Mandate, but oh my god, I couldn’t stop laughing at Assassin’s Creed.

Great stuff.

We’ve been flouting this guy’s reviews for a little while. I think we should get kickbacks.

You want him to give you money for flouting his work?

Main Entry: 1flout
Pronunciation: \ˈflau̇t\
Function: verb
Etymology: probably from Middle English flouten to play the flute, from floute flute
Date: 1551
transitive verb
: to treat with contemptuous disregard : scorn <flouting the rules>
intransitive verb
: to indulge in scornful behavior
synonyms see scoff

You know, I’ve seen the word used in a negative context so many times, I didn’t think to see if the word itself had a negative connotation.
Then we’ll not “flout” his work, instead, we’ll “trumpet” it.

Lo siento.

Or you could just flaunt it, which is what you probably meant. See the usage note after the definition.

Or “tout”, possibly?

I wasn’t thinking so much “flaunt”. I may have been also thinking “tout”. Let’s just say that the words melded together to form a bastard hybrid.

He’s made some very good adventure games: Fully Ramblomatic.com - Come and play with us. For ever. And ever. And ever.

He’s awfully fond of faggot humor. That’s always good for a laugh, I guess.

I can’t even buy any of the games he reviews (no console and a PC that’s 5 years old and completely underpowered), and I still love his column. I may go look for Psychonauts here just to give it a try.

Thanks for this thread – I had seen him mentioned earlier in a Dope thread and forgot to bookmark either of them…
