If the Brain is so smart...

If the Brain is so smart why does he keep asking Pinky if he is pondering what he (the Brain) is pondering? He never is.

I mean, does Cecil ask someone (I don’t know, who would be his Pinky, anyway?), if he is pondering what he (Cecil) is pondering?

After all, does Chaney ask Bush what he is thinking? One hopes not.

Tick, tick, tick, tick…

Forgive the non-PC way this sounds, but haven’t you ever heard of “Straight Guys”? Or, in this case, “Straight Lab Rats”?

I am so not following whatever the heck you guys are talking about.

He asks, because that’s part of the formula.

Fade in.

Brain asks ‘Are you pondering…?’

Pinky says ‘I think so Brain, but…?’ and is totally off.

Brain makes a slightly threatening remark, explains his actual plan which they execute with disastrous results.

Brain says ‘We must prepare for tomorrow night.’

Pinky asks ‘What are we going to do tomorrow night, Brain?’

Brain says ‘The same thing we do every night, Pinky…TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!’

Fade out.

This also makes it far more funny when they break the formula, like when Pinky gets it right, or Brain says something like ‘The same thing we do every night, Pinky…Clean up the lab…’

On the other hand why, within the BatB universe, he does it - well, actually, it’s the same reason, really. It’s a ritual between them. Brain asks, Pinky’s wrong, all is right with the world. This would explain why he looked not only amazed but even somewhat distressed when Pinky was right. It shatters his worldview somewhat, as well as calling into question the wisdom/intelligence of whatever he was pondering.

Because that’s how the writers wrote it. Sheesh!
