… I’m going to go over there and put a Doc Marten in someone’s tailpipe.
Friday last week - Mrs S and I decide on a new Honda CR-V. They don’t have our color so they’ll have to order one or trade for one with another dealer. We sign all the papers and are told we’d have the car sometime next (now this) week.
Monday - spoke to the salesman (from whom I bought the car). He said he’s talk to the comptroller woman who gets the cars to the dealership to see when I could expect it, and call me back. He didn’t.
Tuesday - Called and left the salesman a message. No call back.
Wednesday - Called and spoke to someone else, because it was my salesman’s day off. He said he’d talk to the comptroller woman and find out the deal and call me back. He didn’t.
Today (Thursday) - Called and asked for a manager. He apologized and said he’d get the scoop and call me back. That was about three hours ago.
Whoops, I hit submit instead of preview, I had a question too.
If they drag for weeks on this, what are my options? I know I signed the paperwork, but is it finalized even though I don’t have the car? I’m a pretty patient guy but the fact that no one there seems capable of calling me back is pissing me off.
Untill you take posession of the car and drive off the lot it is still their car. In the business this is referred to as rolling the car. As in when the car rolls off the lot. Then and only then it is yours. My susgestion is to call another Honda dealer with the numbers that you have from the first guy and see if they have the car and will play ball. If the answer is yes, then drop the first guy like a bad habit.
If they ask tell them straight out that they did not return phone calls and since they did keep up their part of the bargin, you went elsewhere.
If you really want to be evil give American Honda’s consumer affairs people a call and give them the details. This will cause the dealer some grief from the factory.
You may also have the right under your state’s laws to back out of the contract without penalty within a certain number of days (in WI it’s three). You could look into that option. IANAL etc.
