Ditto.
As it turns out, today IS my birthday. A month ago I pointed out something very specific, affordable, and easily available at Best Buy to my husband (we were standing right in front of the item at the time, I was admiring it) and said “That would make a great birthday present!”
I got a card today. That’s all.
Fortunately, I’m a little old to care much about presents, and well able to buy the thing for myself…
I don’t ask for things for my birthday. I think I would feel like I was still a teenager if I asked my wife to buy me a present.
But if I was going to ask, it’d be nice if my wife arranged to have some of our good friends over for a Saturday afternoon on the deck, have someone grilling some stuff, have someone bring me a beer and a burger every so often, and music and laughter and sunshine. And then after everyone leaves, she would bring the box o’ fun out of the closet and she could do that thing she does so expertly, about which I will not go into detail.
That would be an awesome birthday.
A Dremel drill press, an angle grinder or a welder.
The birthday fairy can get me a cnc mill.
Depends who’s asking, since the means of the person proposing to give me a gift determines what I can ask for without insulting them.
That said, I love gift cards. Absolutely love them. I know some people find them impersonal. Not me. Lay on the gift cards. If I got nothing but gift cards for my birthday and Christmas I would be quite happy.
A summer dress. One that fits me well, has structure to the bodice, but not too dressy, about knee length and made from a nice light fabric. From shopping this weekend I fear this will not happen.
Hmm, Really I like a day of events. So my ideal day would be to go out for breakfast to my favorite place that serves mountains of fresh fruit with each meal. Then to a park where we can play bocce ball with friends and the kidlet can play with the dog. Maybe a light picnic in the park for lunch. In the evening either drop the kid off at the sitters and go to a movie or have a barbecue and hang out with friends in front of a fire.
