Tortilla chips and salsa are much more of a dietary staple for me than they should be. I eat potato chips less frequently, and never with any kind of dip, so I’m assuming she would get chips and salsa. She would definitely be thrown off by my use of the word “dip”, though; I never call salsa “dip” and don’t use any other dip enough that I wouldn’t need to specify which one I meant.
(Actually, I try to avoid calling anything I intend to eat “dip”. @Mahaloth knows why)
I would be very puzzled by such a request coming from her, as it would be very out of character for my wife to give such nonspecific instructions. More typically, she would specify not only what kind of chips, but what brand and what size, with multiple secondary options if the first choice is not available. She does like French onion dip with potato chips occasionally, but it could also mean chips and salsa. I would probably end up buying both, and maybe throwing in some pita chips and hummus to be on the safe side.
I don’t live with my partner but if he were visiting and I sent him out, or asked him to stop on the way over, he might ask me “Where is the nearest Circle K?” Because we both grew up in the Cleveland area, and still live here, and we’re all obsessed with Lawson’s Chip Dip (a French onion dip).
Lawson’s was a store that I think generally got bought up by Dairy Mart, which then got bought up by Circle K. They had a French onion dip that was awesome, and both Dairy Mart & Circle K continue to sell it.
So my partner would hook us both up with a tub of Lawson’s and some Ruffles, because Ruffles are the best with Lawson’s.
ETA: I just texted him and he replied “Ruffles and Lawson’s chip dip.” Win!
Answered yes. We’ve had this conversation before: if you wanted something specific, you should’ve said so. If you don’t care, you can be as vague as you like. There’d only be a problem if the procured chip and dip didn’t go together: like Pringles and pico de gallo.
Local grocery store sells what is basically grated ‘Mexican’ cheese that they add diced pickled jalapenos too. Then mix it up with what I think is basically mayonnaise. It’s awesome with potatoes chips.
I tried to duplicate it once. Did not have mayonnaise. So I thought, well, Ranch Dressing may work. No, no it doesn’t.
Ummm. . . I don’t have a clear idea of what I might want at that time. Chips and dip could mean about anything between my wife and me. She would likely get tortilla chips and salsa, but I’m not much into chips and salsa these days.
Do other people always get that same thing? Sorry, not trying to hijack. To me this is a confusing question.
