If you could erase one stereotype what would it be?

So you now have the power to completely erase one stereotype that is out there. It can be a long standing one you’ve always heard or something that just irks you in general.

Which one do you target?

Homosexuals are NOT child molesters. They do not recruit children.

That video games are “for kids” or that most gamers are kids.

All Texans are ignorant rednecks.
All Christians are right wing Republicans obsessed with abortion.

Anyone who believes in God is an idiot, mentally defective or insane.

All Republicans are neo-Nazis bent on subjugating minorities, raping the environment and forcing pregnant women to not abort even if it means throwing the woman in prison.

That if you work in an office, you’re some corporate drone completely lacking in creativity.

Government employees are overpaid and get too many holidays.

Most stereotypes are true, except the ones about groups I belong in.

That Southerners are stupid.

That housewives are lazy.

That black/yellow/brown people are different from white people.

The one that says poor people are stupid and/or worthless.

Can I be slightly awkward and pit playing to stereotypes? In other words the people that make them true.

That fat people are all slovenly, smelly, disgusting pigs who can’t step away from the table.

That people who believe in God are inherently stupid or illogical.

That if you live in a nice suburb you and your surroundings lack creativity and character.

That conservatives are the party of good financial discipline and less government intrusion into one’s personal affairs.

That non-religious/athiest/agnostics are horrible people, with no morals or values, and are unable to live good, pure lives and act kindly or compassionate to others.

That women are somehow inferior to men.

(And I am a guy BTW.)

These are all very interesting…thanks.

I tend to really get upset about the all Southerners are stupid…all Christians are intolerant fundies and/or stupid and women are inferior ones myself.

I have also found that sometimes people who claim to be the most tolerant are the ones that secretly buy into the most stereotypes.

I feel strongly about this one too. I completely believe that non-religious, atheist or agnostic people can lead good, pure, kind and compassionate lives.

And that is coming from a Christian. We will differ on our beliefs about the afterlife or lack thereof but the majority of my friends aren’t Christians and they are some of the best hearted, smart and compassionate people I know.

But you are correct that that stereotype is a big one.
