If You Like "Wordle", Try "Connections"

I resisted that until the end because it just seemed too obvious. I would have finished a lot faster if I’d just gone with it; I was down to blue and purple, and it took me a long while to figure out purple.

The first line began with TIMES, NEW, and ROMAN.

I got purple only because I got the other three. Of course, it made sense once I saw the answer.

I just started dating someone who has gotten me very into this game. I apologize if this has already been brought up but there’s a site that has all of the previous games archived. You can also generate your own puzzles and see ones that other users have made. Those of us new to this can go crazy and not have to wait until tomorrow for a new one.

If you want to know how to win over a nerd, you make her a custom Connections. Give mine a try. Slight spoiler: the new gf’s name is Lily.

As of a couple of weeks ago, The NYT Games site already has all of the previous Connections games available to play, along with past Wordle games.

But only for subscribers, if I’m not mistaken.

Possibly, yes. (I’m a subscriber so I didn’t pay attention to that.)

Whatever. Isn’t someone going to try my custom puzzle ffs? I spent a lot of time on it.

I tried it. Took me several tries. Got the purple and green categories early. Got stuck on blue and yellow.

No offense to your gf but the blue category is a little subjective and wispy for those whom you’re not trying to personally flatter.

The rest is fun though.

I done made one too. Good luck…

Well yeah. That’s why I gave the spoiler. She was impressed at least.

Okay, this one’s probably even more of a bastard than the last one. But I haven’t trotted out my Only Connect wall ones yet…

Only Connect walls are expected to be solved by brute force guessing to resolve overpopulated categories, which makes them rather different from Connections puzzles.

Fair enough.

Also, my knowledge of B-tier British celebrities is woefully inadequate for that game!

Okay, be honest. Did anyone actually figure out the purple category today?

Nope. Not me.

Usually in cases like that I figure everything else out and the purple category reveals itself. Although rarely, the commonality jumps out at me.

I noticed that ‘monte’ was an anagram of ‘monet’ when I was trying to figure out what the heck to do with ‘monte’, but didn’t follow up on the thought, and when the category was revealed still struggled to figure out the others. So nope, not me either. I tend to try to fully solve the puzzle before submitting anything, and was confident enough in the other three categories that I submitted purple first, but I had no clue what tied them together.

I actually did but it took a long time. I got it before blue.
