I thought for sure at least Farmer’s Insurance was US-centric. I thought Farmer’s Almanac might be–and that was the tell-tale for Purple for me. I also was not sure if “farmer’s tan” was American or not – that goes by several different names.
Being a Discworld fan helps. Also, I realized, a nodding acquaintance with professional golf.
For blue:
In the US, as I’m sure you know from hanging out here, college athletics is huge, and certain schools are known for producing elite athletes. Do you guys not have what may seem like extraneous information for your footballers or cricketers? Like hometown or something like that?
I suck and Connections and I fucking HATE it.
See you tomorrow
Not in the regular statblock, no.
I don’t know if we always show it, but I guess it’s common enough.
Just want to add - I find two things help me greatly with the US-centric ones: hanging out at the Dope, and watching John Oliver.
FWIW, I can sort of understand how you feel when I play the New York Times Crossword and a total “gimme” clue pops up for someone living in NYC, but is absolutely gibberish to me.
We do seem to know a lot about their wives and girlfriends. In Britain they are known as WAGs. Does that count?
Nationality rather than hometown (Only about a third of premier league players are English), cricket counties and rugby teams also have a not of players from abroad, for international matches their club is often mentioned. Age is also common though that is also the case in the US.
Similarly, I’ve been doing the British cryptic crossword puzzles occasionally for a few years. I find them incredibly hard for various reasons, but largely because they include a lot of Briticisms that mean nothing to me.

As you can see, I couldn’t resist the red herring even though I knew it had to be wrong.
Every freaking one was the type I find hardest! I actually thought purple was by far the easiest.
ETA: I have been doing some crossword puzzles from a site I like recently and one of the creators is Canadian and I always have to remember that when the clue involves things like government agencies or television stations.
This was super easy. My only mistake was because i-D is also a british magazine.

I made the same mistake for the same reason, but otherwise got the general concept immediately.

Took a minute to catch the concept, then easy. I tried to get purple first but had no idea how these would generally rate in terms of difficulty. There was no obvious purple to me, but maybe now I could see why purple was purple and not blue. I thought for sure LANTHANUM was purple level, but now maybe BRITISH MAGAZINE was slightly more obscure and less inferable. Though I’ve seen it on shelves here. Ended up blue first, then just mashing the first ones I thought of together.
I never got the theme or any of the groups. I throw the I am notvAmerican card as an excuse.
Yep. Once it clicked driver’s license = ID = Idaho the entire puzzle fell into place quickly.
And there is my excuse. passport is the default id over here and US state abbreviations rarely come up.
July 5th game. Not a great challenge for me today. I even got Purple first.
