My initial “glance around” survey saw ZIN and CHARD and sussed out purple.
My mistake was putting RAG as an insult (yellow).

ZIN stood out like a sore thumb. The only possible categories for it I could think of were wine or one of those “add a letter” categories. I was expecting it to be blue, at most, and was surprised to see it purple.
Quick and easy today. Started with blue and then purple, and was surprised at the color each time. Then again, there wasn’t a purplish group in the bunch.

I found this one incredibly hard. I saw blue first. Got purple although put flounders in as a guess because I wasn’t thinking of dropping just one letter and semi-guessed on green. I never actually got yellow. They were just the last four left. Also saw the red herring but luckily was looking for posh and never realized there were actually four answers there.

I did fall for the red herring. Otherwise it was easy enough. Had to think about purple for a bit though.
Really struggled with this one until I finally eliminated the Purple.

Same - went straight for the red herring. After that it was smooth sailing.
Got Green right away, followed quickly by Blue. Then had to think about it for a while before I got Yellow (which really should have been the Blue category!). Not sure I would have ever gotten Purple.
After reading the preceding comments, I realized I have no idea what the red herring is today? I’m obviously missing something!

Serves me right for thinking I’d got an easy one in my worst area.
Not too much difficulty for my forward rainbow. Got yellow straight away, then saw the red herring but as one had already gone it didn’t create a wrong guess. Green came shortly after then got 3 of the blues and guessed the 4th as it was the only one to make sense.
Would never get purple Belle was the only one I got after I saw the connection

I don’t think I would ever have come up with purple. Not my wheelhouse. I had three of the four correct words sussed out from the beginning because they didn’t seem to fit the puzzle otherwise For example, BELLED is obviously an outlier of a word, and FLOUNDERS looked off, as the ending S didn’t reallly fit with the form of the other answers. I suspected ABUT as well, and I did remove letters, but the only Disney character I actually knew for sure was BELLE. I think ABU was a monkey, right? FLOUNDER? No idea? And is it SCAR or CARY, as I don’t know either of those, but I couldn’t find the link between them or what the fourth could be.
I fell for the red herring and am still angry that it wasn’t a correct answer.
I never would have guessed the purple one without the process of elimination.
I didn’t make any mistakes but I had no idea hat the purple was until I saw the answer. I also didn’t see the Red Herring mentioned above because I got green immediately.
The red herring was obvious - they omitted POSH but included ICE. I worked out green and blue first, but I really should have seen purple earlier. I recognized three of them as suspiciously violet, but was stuck thinking The Simpsons instead of Disney.
Yeah, my mind went there too, but it was too much of a stretch for me I was seeing FLOUNDERS>Flanders and ABUT>Apu somehow, but that seemed well beyond the type of mangling Connections accepts
For the purple:
Abu=monkey in Aladdin
Flounder=fish in The Little Mermaid
Scar=evil lion in The Lion King
