If You Like "Wordle", Try "Connections"

“Aegis” isn’t an Americanism. It’s an Ancient Greece-ism. It’s the name of Athena’s shield. Though it’s come to metaphorically mean protection extended by someone.

I started with the security holes, then with the protections. After that, I wasn’t sure about the gums, but I saw that the rest were all NFL symbols, so I figured it worked. But yeah, that purple category is pretty US-centric.

The Americanisms were the gum brands and NFL teams. Aegis was just a word I didn’t know

All fairly straightforward.

The Monday red herring got me as well.

What was the red herring?

It was Punk, Bohemian, Flapper and Hipster which are all examples of counter culture.

Seeing Bab and Bohemian got me the purple easily, and apart from a confusion over Flapper dresses the rest was easy.

Purple jumped out at me immediately, then blue did the same. So I actually decided to try for the reverse rainbow, but guessed wrong.

Tuesday’s puzzle has a clever theme. I got them in rainbow order, but had no clue what Purple’s category was.

In Monday, I saw three of the four purples immediately, which insulated me from the red herring @Quimby saw (though I still thought it was a category that I couldn’t find the fourth of, until another word was eliminated from it).

When it got down to the last two categories, I had three in each, and had no idea what baba or hipster were in either context.

Aah, yeah, getting the green immediately did save me there.

Once I got WOODCHUCK COULD CHUCK WOOD out of the way, my brain could focus better on the rest. But I gave up on purple; not sure I ever would have gotten it.
