do you bump the question with your own reply or do you re-post by starting a new thread, perhaps on a different board?
Everyone is waiting to find out what you are going to do before answering…
No, I don’t. If no one has the answer, I get slightly annoyed but forget about it soon enough. I don’t why, but it bothers me when the OP bumps a thread. I can’t help but think they’re an attention whore. To be honest, it bothers me more when there’s a lot of replies and the OP bumps it. It seems Dopers are good for not liking the responses they get. More so than other boards.
In General Questions, you’re allowed one bump. We prefer that you don’t bump it in 1-2 hours, as many posters aren’t on here but a few hours a day.
I’d think bumping after 8-12 hours would be OK.
I will bump my own post if it falls off the first page of the thread. The rules discourage it, but according to Dex, one bump, and one bump only, is permissible after a suitable period of time, especially if you can add some information that wasn’t in your first post.
But, no, as long as it’s on the first page, I’ll assume people have read it and either didn’t have an answer, or declined to read it. I won’t bump it if it’s still on the first page. I don’t take it personally, and if my question hasn’t been answered, I’ll search for it elsewhere online.
If there’s something I really want to know, I’ll give one bump after 12-24 hours. If it fails again after that, I’ll let it drop.
That’s only if it’s something I really want answered. If it’s just a lame MPSIMS thread or something stupid in the pit, I won’t bother.
You guys wrecked this thread by answering.
A lot of times things posted late at night get missed. One bump in the middle of the day.
You know what annoys the hell out of me? I’ll start a thread; it drops like a rock. Then like a week or so later, some one else will start a thread about the exact same thing and it turns in to a three page thread.
