If you thought X couldn't sing, check out Y!

Asimovian was surprised the other day when they played an excerpt of Tony Bennet’s new cd where he did a duet with Lady Gaga performing “The Lady is a Tramp.” He had no idea Gaga could really sing (she really can).

Post your links to songs you think will surprise and astound the masses because everyone (okay, at least some people) assumed the singer couldn’t sing.

I haven’t listened to that song, but I remember saying to my sister a few months back “I really, really don’t like Lady Gaga, I think don’t think she’s attractive, I don’t like her style, I don’t like her singing, I REALLY don’t like her voice, but I saw a clip of her with only her and a piano and she’s really good…I wish she would do more of that.” I think this was around the same time she did the thing at the grammy’s or the emmy’s as the greaser and it was, again, just her and a piano.
I think she’s much better without all the production. She really is talented, but I really, really, don’t like the songs/music that Lady Gaga puts out…
Now, I’ll be back if I can come up with something that actually fits the OP.

I’ve posted it before but this is a link to two songs by Lady Gaga before she was famous. I think the first song, Captivated sounds like something Sara Bareilles might do but the second one, Electric Kiss definitely has the seeds of her rockier glam sound in it.

Joey P, I remember seeing a clip on youtube where she did an acoustic piano version of pokerface and it was absolutely wonderful and then about 3/4ths through the song, she was playing down in the lower half and leaned over and started banging on the top half of the keyboard with her foot. I’m sure there was a suitably artistic reason for doing that but it completely ruined the groove I had been in previously.

I love that song, I love Gaga and I must find an MP3 of this somehow.

For people who think Aerosmith is just a bunch of untalented hacks, I offer Voodoo Medicine Man. (YouTube link.)
