IF YOU WANT TO USE TEENSY-WEENSY TYPE, it's [sub] not [SIZE=1]!!

Bigger? Mine’s a little scrunched up and hard to read, [ sub ] and [ sup ] are clearer. But they’re all the same character size. Wow…

Bigger ?

Ok, I give up. You are nuts.

That’s precisely how it looks to me, as well. IE 6.0. Even when I use Text Size, Smallest, the small stuff looks the same, whether using “size” or “sub”.

Me too. Text size “Largest”, OTOH DOES make it look screwy

Lobsang’s screen capture doesn’t look ANYTHING what it looks on my screen.

Actually I use the Largest text size, because I have a super-big computer screen, so I can type and read the message board while laying flat on the floor sxi feet away.

In askia’s defence - if I do ctrl-mousewheel and make the text larger, the [size=1] stuff gets bigger but the [sub] stuff stays as is.

Mine, too. But I checked “View --> Text Size” in the menus and tried other settings. The text from the size=1 tag looks bigger if I set my Text Size to “Largest”.

Try setting it on “Medium”, and see how your OP looks.

On “Medium”, my view looks like Lobsang’s screen shot.

On mine, if I go to Text Size, Largest, both the “size” and “sub” text becomes larger than all the normal text.

Okay, okay… it’s a quirk. I get it. This has been driving me nuts for months. I bet there’s no chance of this thread just sinking ignobly to the bottom of the page now, eh?

Same thing I mentioned above: CTRL+Scrollwheel Down (Or change to Largest) and [ Size = 1 ] gets bigger. CTRL+Scrollwheel Up (Or change to Smallest) and [ Size = 1 ] gets smaller.

Well, you could always ask a mod to lock it, but until then, the rest of us might just continue to gleefully point out your insanity and offer you a free straightjacket fitting.

Muhahahahahahha!!!

Oh, no. We’re going to keep responding to it, to make sure that’s it’s always in the top five. Vindictive bastards, who like to wallow in Schadenfreude:smiley:

Askia, do you have the Arial font? Everyone else, are posts shown using the Arial font?

I don’t want a free straightjacket fitting-- I want a free *straightjacket! * With the SDMB logo on it!

If we keep this thread on the top of the pit for a week or three, maybe we’ll be able to get a subscription going for you.

Lobsang. Yeah, Arial.

Early Out. And it’s FUCKING glee!!! Not schadenfruede!! GAH.

Yes, even though my Internet Options font setting for webpages is Times New Roman.

:: Deep breath :: Okay. Problem solved. I I returned font size to the medium setting. Uh, sorry about, uh, calling you fine people… uh… y’know. That word. Uh… I apologize. You’ve been just terrific and I sincerely hope you’ll take this apology in the spirit it’s intended. Really.

Slinks off… quietly… doesn’t bother to smallify font size…

That’s because a web page can specify specific fonts or font families for the text to display with. Your default should be used if the web page hasn’t specified one.

The style-sheet for this page, for example, specifies for most of the text to be fomatted with this:

font: 10pt Trebuchet MS, Arial, sans-serif;

After the “10pt”, there is a listing of font options. “sans-serif” is a font family, so that if the previous specific fonts are not present, your browser should pick a “sans-serif” font – whatever is the most common one on your system, normally (like Helvetica, if I recall). Times New Roman is a “serif” font.

Sorry, but you have to complete 10 silly rants, 1 offer from one of our sponsors, and refer 5 friends before you get the free straightjacket.
