"ig" as shorthand for "I guess" -- you seen this?

I don’t even understand how this happens with autocorrect.

I don’t recognize ig but think I would get it from the context. It reminds me of some msg shorthand used in online poker chats that people (ok, me) seem to pick up. Ex: nh = nice hand, ty = thank you, gg = good game (at the end of someone’s night).

I do a lot of chatting on WhatsApp. There is no autocorrect. I have no idea what tools the cool kids use these days, but I bet at least some of them also don’t have autocorrect.

I personally have autocorrect turned off on all my devices. I do have auto spellcheck, but not auto spellcorrect. IME autocorrect causes as many mistakes as it makes, especially w my odd vocabulary. So I like its help in flagging my suspicious words, but I’ll decide whether to fix them or not.

YMMV of course.

To me, ig scans just fine. Each word is represented by the right letter, the context always matches. I always get thrown by things like “wyd” (what would you do) or “wyt” (what do you think).

Never seen it before. (Hope not to see it again.)

Trump has decreed that AI should now be called SI. It would be funny if everyone could insist upon pronouncing it si, like Spanish yes.
