Ignorance, hatred, stupidity ruin cultural awareness day at my son's school.

I roll up the sleeves of my dress shirts every day. Also, I eat a lot of bacon and drink a lot of Mountain Dew.

Fair enough. The conclusion was the main thing. I certainly think Muslims should have their minute or two also.

Because you’re an Atheist?

I’m not an atheist, but yes, I do have all of those.
I’d share, but I don’t need any threats today.

I’m not talking about atheists; I’m talking about the distinctive practices of Atheists. Apparently this is a marginalized, undertaught culture. As a proponent of multiculturalism, I’m as interested in learning about the Atheist culture as any other.

Do agnostics eat turkey bacon and drink Diet Mountain Dew?

Diet caffeine-free Mt. Dew. We don’t like to talk about that lot.

Well, for one, there’s our time-honored tradition of sleeping late on Sundays.

Well, there’s valuing science, reason, and rationality over superstition, dogma, and woo.

And those are tenets and cultural practices of Atheism how, exactly?

It’s the definition of atheism, though technically/linguistically the word only refers to deities. Others prefer other labels for that reason, but I don’t mind “atheism.” Rejecting deities while also rejecting, say, dowsing goes together.

As well as the restrooms in any public place. :smack:

I’ve seen way too many SDMB threads devolve into arguments over the definition of atheism; is that going to happen to this one too?

And singing the blues.

Surely some people reject deities but not dowsing, and vice-versa.

As AnaMen is not herself an atheist, shall we conclude that she embraces “superstition, dogma, and woo”?

Except that’s not really what atheists do. Atheists don’t believe in gods. That doesn’t place any limit on what else they might believe. I know plenty of people who don’t believe in gods, but do believe that 9/11 was an inside job, homeopathy works, or that telepathy is a real thing.

Also, atheists do not, by nature, think religious people are stupid. That’s certainly a common enough belief among certain atheists, particularly the ones on this board, but it’s not a necessary condition of atheism.

I’m not an atheist because I am agnostic, not because I believe in any made up stuff.
Since the non-existence of any sort of god or gods is unprovable, atheism seems slightly irrational to me.

Cultural practices need not be practiced by each individual to be considered valid as practices.

And that’s why I’m gonna try real hard to pretend the post above yours doesn’t exist. :smack: :smack: :smack:

I’m a gnostic apostist!

CMC fnord!

Whether or not I’m agnostic is not for you to decide. We agnostics exist with or without your approval.

Yup. The higher power I don’t believe in doesn’t command it.

Beats me. I only showed up because of my Google Alert for (“ignorance” AND “hatred” AND “stupidity”).
