I know that the few times I’ve put someone on ignore, it’s lasted just enough for me to cool down. I also know that sometimes I see people pitted for things that to me are ridiculous.
Am I on someone’s ignore? Probably. Have I ever pissed anybody off? Fer sure. But you know, the problem with getting angry is that you’ve got double the work: first, you need to get angry, and then you need to calm down. I don’t think that whomever has me on ignore is missing any enormous pearls of wisdom, but hey, if they feel better seeing those posts that say (ignored), good for them.
Vague? Paranoid? No, it’s very specific and quite sensible, thanks. I’m sure I’ve given people cause to put me on the ignore list, though I don’t get the whole notion of ignore lists. It’s like TPTB have decided to give a sop to the infants complaining “I don’t like what he says! Protect me! Wahhh”, instead of telling them to grow a pair and read a different thread if it bothers them that much.
But I’ve definitely noticed that someone says more or less the same thing as I do, and then someone responds to their point, which is often more poorly expressed and sometimes even lacks the specific examples that the later poster requests, but which I have already supplied in my previous post. If that’s not a tipoff that I’m on some ignore lists, I don’t know what would be.
So to all those who have put me on ignore: Up yours with gauze!

I’m sure I am on some ignore lists. I even know who one of them is.
I don’t have anyone on my Ignore - seems like a waste of time. Since it is verboten to mention, I am not tempted to tell anyone. It is a waste of time to read some posters, so I don’t bother, which serves the same purpose as an Ignore.
But yes, I think most of it is people not reading a thread before they respond.

I was a mod on the last few forums that I hung out on so I could never put anyone on ignore and they couldn’t do it to me either. In general I don’t understand why people can’t just skip the posts of people that irritate them that much but I did use it once in order to not go off on someone that was trolling me and daring me to suspend him. I took him off again a few hours later after the admins had slapped him around. Hopefully I’m still too new here to have made an ignore list.
I’m sure people ignore me just fine without me being on anyone’s List.
Does anyone know how the ignore list works?
Do their posts simply not appear in any thread you’re reading? Or is it simpler, like if they post to a thread you’ve subscribed to, you don’t get a notice?
I’m not sure how they have it set up here but vBulletin offers one setting of a soft ignore where you can see that the post is there but have to click on it to read it, and a hard ignore where the post doesn’t show up at all. I’m not sure which one they use here but you can put me on ignore through your User CP, tell me and then I’ll post so you’ll know which kind it is.
I just checked. If a person is on your ignore list, their entire post is hidden, and there is a little notice that says “This post is hidden because Poster X is on your ignore list.” There is also a link to take Poster X off your list.
If it would make you fell better, I put you on my ignore list, but I wouldn’t be able to tell you if I really did it or not.

Hmm. Maybe soft ignores were a mod tool but I could swear I remember an member discussion about how hard it was to go remove someone from their ignore list every time they decided that they wanted to see one of their posts anyway, and they got that feature or hack installed.
Those two posts pretty much sum it up.
I kill threads too, do I smell or something? Is it some sort of phenomenon that I am unaware of?
There is also “View Post” directly above that, which allows you to see the post without messing with the ignore list.
