A horrible Private Message scenario imagined:
Strange – I got 17 pages of hits, including links to threads he started. You can access his posting history from his profile page.
The default search was recently changed to only 6 months, so if you just did a search without specifying a different time, you would not get any hits on a poster that has been gone that long. To search for older posters, you need to go to the advance search, change the time period and then try to search only one or two forums to take it easy on the server.

Now I wonder what happens if you have somebody on your ignore list who is then subsequently granted moderator status. Does that name automatically come off the ignore list, or is it a loophole in the system? Or is it like crossing the streams, causing the universe to implode?
I just tried to put Cecil on my ignore list, just to see if it could be done. It can’t.
Not that it would have a whole lot of impact–he hasn’t posted since September 9.
I wait a really long time before adding someone to my list. I mean, they have to be outrageously annoying for years before I add them. And eventually, I take them off to see if things have improved. I used to have 3, took 2 off, and then put one of them back on, so now I have 2 on the list. One has been redeemed. 
The only reason I bother is because I have a tendency to read posts without noticing at first who wrote them, then going back to look at the name. If the poster is on ignore, that doesn’t happen.
For the record, if you use the “show printable version” under thread tools (I like to print out Pit threads to read on the train) it will not filter out people on your ignore list. That always throws me because one of my posters on ignore posts in BBQ a lot.

I haven’t ever used the ignore feature. If I see a post by a user who regularly irritates me, which is quite rare, I just don’t read the post.
The posters who have most irrirated me have been banned anyway. I think I’ve only gotten really angry at a couple of posters anyway. I’m usually over it quickly.
This place is full of too many interesting people to use the ignore feature.
