I never expected Trump, Hegseth, etc to be competent in this war. As I mentioned in another thread that you responded to, my hope was both the Iranian and Trump administrations would both be weakened by this war. Trump looks incompetent and gas prices are up, which hopefully means the GOP loses the midterms and this administration is hamstrung by congress for the next 2 years.
Meanwhile in Iran they’ve lost a lot of their military power and hopefully their domestic oppression tools have gotten weaker too. They’ve also hopefully helped build a regional coalition against them. You can call it wishful thinking, but what’s happening now is just a battle in a longer term war against Iran.
What is your ideal solution to all of this? If you could go back in time to 2022 how would you handle all of what has happened in the middle east?

Their military power is perhaps a little depleted, but so is ours. Their domestic power, meanwhile, has skyrocketed, and their international economic power is significantly increased.
Part of the tragedy of this is that, prior to Trump’s idiocy, the Iranian people were just possibly moving towards throwing off their oppressors. But now, thanks to our ineptness, there’s no chance of that for another generation.
I don’t have a “solution”, except don’t start a war when there’s no serious threat to us. Don’t end a nuclear deal that was working, for no reason at all. Don’t start a war with a country for which we have extensive wargames demonstrating that it would likely be able to hold out and extract massive economic pain were we to attack. Especially, don’t start a war with no mission and no plan.
Plus what @Chronos said. We’re both weaker militarily, but Iran’s international reputation has skyrocketed, while ours is even worse than before. The world now sees Iran as the little David that beat the Goliath of the US, and we handed them that reputation, as well as control over the Strait indefinitely.

Strange. For some reason I always thought one had to request the job of modding.
All I know is that my own sensibilities were so vastly misaligned with the mods in this place for a good decade or more (suffice to say, I had GREAT umbrage to how the board gauged free speech by how permissive racist fuckers were allowed to spam the worst 4chan neo-nazi shit here) that this fundamental core value of mine would’ve barred me from any mod discussion (unless it was to make an example of me for “reacting too strongly”).
