Personally, I take a very dim view of people who use the ploy, “I-Care-More-About-the-Troops-than-You-Do”. in an effort to gain an advantage in an argument or debate. It reminds me of how estranged/divorced couples weaponize their own children in an effort to dominate one another. I think it’s pretty clear that we all care, and we also care about all the people who are collateral damage in the war zone.
I am not planning to read the thread in question, so I might not be grasping the nuance here. But I think perhaps it’s easier on the heart to believe one’s child is in danger for a noble reason than to believe one’s child is in danger for the pointless entertainment of a heartless incompetent buffoon. One might at least want that risk to have meaning.
I actually wanted to give @iiandyiiii credit for something in this thread though.
Because, leaving aside if it was worthy of a pitting or not (IMHO not), QuickSilver complained about @iiandyiiii not showing concern for QS’s child.
And ignoring their beef with QS, iiandyiiii did take the time to show sympathy for said child.

Not meaning to digress the thread, but it’s not the board, it’s just that the board tends to be America-centric and that’s just the nature of American society. Many posters here have served in the military because, again, the USA is a militaristic culture. It was a real horror during the Vietnam era when the draft was in effect. Looking in from the outside, from most other countries, it’s all pretty amazing, but not in a good way.
Of course, @iiandyiiii is barely ignored and doesn’t even make the top 50 list.
He is generally not a problem or issue, though on the pair of wars in the Middle East he has been strident. I even nominated him as a possibility for Mod when we added @ParallelLines instead. This despite being fairly left of me.
