If coolness were the only consideration and practicality were completely out the window, i’d probably go for the 1949 Delahaye 175 S Saoutchik Roadster.
Another car i just thought of that would satisfy my desire for performance with my desire not to waste lots of energy would be the Tesla Roadster. Fully electric, no gas at all, and 0-60 in under 4 seconds.
The main drawback would be the fact that it only goes about 200 miles on a charge, and “filling up” requires charging for a good 4-5 hours even on a powerful charger. No good for road trips. Also, basically no luggage space, and two people only.
Oh, wow. How could I even pick? Domestic classic ('63 Riviera, '67-'69 Camaro, Advance Design Chevy pickup), foreign greats ('84 GTI, '91 BMW 8-series, almost any year NSX or 911), or a new truck… this would be tough.
Most of those would be out of consideration, though, because if I only get to have one vehicle it needs to be capable of carrying around the family and our stuff for the foreseeable future. I think I’ll take a Chevy Avalanche 4WD Texas Edition in either Imperial Blue Metallic or Victory Red with the convenience package, although I’m tempted to go with its up-market cousin, the Cadillac Escalade EXT. The Chevy’s not cheap at about $43k, but the Caddy *starts *at $62k, so the Chevy wins because there’s going to be a toddler or two in the back seat. Even if I wasn’t paying for it, I couldn’t subject the back seat of a $62,000 vehicle to the whims of a toddler.
Seriously. 300 miles of range is enough for me for darn near everything I do, and the gas savings will be enough to comfort me on the rare occasions that I need to drive more for than 300 miles at a stretch.
A Ford F-250, loaded, extended cab, extended bed, diesel, converted to bio-diesel. This is not my favorite vehicle by a long shot but it is the smartest choice if I can only drive one vehicle. I may have to haul things or tow a trailer or boat and I don’t want to be stuck with a vehicle that can’t do it, if the occasion arose.
I won’t try to one up anyone for most obscure or bad ass classic car or a sports car, I’ll be simple and only request a Plymouth Prowler, red please with the trailer as well. I don’t live anywhere that has drastic differences between seasons, so I wouldn’t need a “snow” car and a nonsnow car or anything like that. Also don’t have any bratlings to drive around, so a two-seater is fine.
Yeah, this is my choice as well. The good news, though, is that I already have one! I’ll save you some time and logistics work, mhendo, and just take the cash value of the offer.
That’s the car I’m driving now, although mine might be a 2010. It’s so boring I can’t remember the year. Yours isn’t blue, is it? There are so many of them on the road now that my son and I play “Fit Hit” a version of the old slug bug game we played with VW Beetles when I was a kid. It’s boring, but it is SO practical that I can’t hate it.
May I have 911 please?
I’m a fairly practical person for the most part, no kids to haul on a regular basis, but, as I’ve found out during the past eight years, it would be nice to have more than a two-seater if I’m only allowed one vehicle. I also have a 30+ mile each way commute and like to travel, so mileage is important.
Therefore, I choose a Nissan Cube, in scarlet red, please.
I test drove one of these today and it rocked! The convenience of a small SUV, the mileage of a decent compact and I loved the way it drove.
Jaguar XF maybe, 3.0L diesel. Nice car, and since it gets 42 mpg (imp gallons) I could afford to run it. I’d drive both the manual and automatic before making a decision.
