Preferred kind of dream car

I’m sure there are lots of other options, but ‘dream cars’ tend to fall into certain categories that I listed. It doesn’t matter which dream car you pick as long as you pick one. So sports car can be a camaro or ferrari. Luxury car can be a BMW 3 series or a rolls royce. I notice when most people talk about their ideal or dream car, its usually a luxury car or a sports car though.

But of them, which one do people prefer?

It definitely depends on how or why I got the car. If I’m just given a car right now at this point in my life, I’d choose something like a 62 Ferrari gto with the sole purpose of selling and then never working again. After that, I’d have several dream cars. Several for track use. Several for general driving utility. Maybe a few fun and/or historic cars. Depends on my mood and budget.

I see a difference between sports cars and muscle cars. You got your supercars like Lamborghinis and Ferrarris, the you have muscle cars like the Camaro or GTO.

I don’t care much for supercars, as there’s really no way in daily life to enjoy any of their super abilities. My dream car would be one that can get me where I’m going no matter what the weather or terrain. Now if they can just combine that with something climate-friendly I’ll be thrilled. LOL!

I said luxury car, but it’d be an SUV: A Jaguar F-Pace. 33 mpg highway, tows up to 5,500 pounds, and it’s a Jaguar. If I needed to tow more, I’d get a Porsche Cayenne.

It’d have to be an Indiana make- '63 Avanti R2, '37 coffin-nose Cord, or maybe a Deusenberg SJ.

A Gremlin.

I would want an electric car or maybe a hybrid, that has enough space inside to carry stuff, and has enough range for short trips (if electric) or great mileage (if hybrid). Not a very high-end dream, but I haven’t found one that I like yet. Something like a medium SUV or crossover, it has to be small enough to fit in my garage, and it has to be designed so that the outside space isn’t reduced to small inside space due to attempts to make it sleek or pretty.

'71 Hemi 'Cuda convertable.

I’d rather have a high-tech electric or hybrid. I’m perfectly happy with my 2013 Volt but if I won the lottery, I’d probably get a Polestar 1.

And I’m not alone, the resale values of luxury cars are falling, and some blame Tesla.

A dream to some…A NIGHTMARE TO OTHERS! [/Merlin]

If money was no object?

Ferrari F-40, please

The F-40 is driving distilled to it’s purest form, no nannyware, no driver “aid” crap, manual transmission, no useless crap
if it didn’t make the car accelerate faster, corner harder, or have a higher top speed, then It had no place on the car, it was pure performance distilled to its core

it's bare bones, stripped down, pure *performance*, basically a street legal Formula 1, and that's why I love it :) it's my "Bucket List" car

I can get behind this sentiment, although in this category of raw, performance, I’d go for a McLaren F1. A friend that has an F40 describes the turbo lag as a scary thing. I prefer a naturally aspirated car.

Absolutely both the F1 and f40 are bucket listers to drive…on a track…but unless I’m filthy rich, no way would I want to own one or insure one or drive one on the street. Ok, I might, for a few weeks, until I can sell them for millions…

Doug DeMuro’s review of the F40

I’ve always liked the [Fitch Phoenix
It was designed by race driver John Fitch, it was supposed to be produced by Detroit but only one was made. :frowning:
If nothing else, that car looks “hip”.

As for a relatively easily-obtainable car, I like the Lotus Super 7.

If you ever watched the 1960’s British TV show “The Prisoner”, that was KAR120C.

Here’s a terrible photo I took of a great pairing. Ultimately, I’d probably go for the GT40 because of the race history, but I’d take either…

I’d go for ome kind of electric beast. Maybe the new Tesla roadster, or the top of the line Model S. Nothing beats an electric for jaw-dropping acceleration.

I picked “sports or muscle car”, but really my dream car would fit into both that and the “Historical classic car” categories. My Miata is really the affordable, modern, reliable version of the sort of car I want, but I really want a classic European roadster like a Triumph TR6. But I feel I should dream bigger, and if money were truly no object and I could have anything I wanted I would get a Jaguar E-Type.
