I'll (Not) Be Home For Christmas

So . . . anybody have any travel plans for over the holidays? I’m going to Charlotte, NC, to visit my sister, provided the Delta pilots will condescend to take me there.

Where are y’all headed? Or are you staying home?

One of the advantages (or DIS-advantages) of living where you were born is that you don’t have to go far. So, we are staying put this year, but are off to Colorado in Jan. WooHoo!

No plans to travel for Christmas, which makes this the first year without my family. And Lyllyan, if you are going skiing here in Colorado, can I suggest Snowmass? It’s not too far from Aspen, and well worth the trip.

At the moment I’m planning on going to see my parents for Christmas, but I’ll only stay for a couple of days. Love them dearly and miss them, but my boyfriend and all my friends in general are here in NYC.

I might take a vacation sometime in January or February, though-- I have the time built up, and will leave my present job within the next 6 months or so, so I’d like to use the time while I can. Mmmmmm, sleeping in…

Parents are coming here. Due to me starting a new job in September, PLUS getting sick with strep for a week, I have no time off.

So…parents show up the 22nd, leave the 30th.

Falcon, that’s rough. Hope you feel better for Christmas and have fun with your parents.

Staying home; filling in at work for those who need to be elsewhere.

Actually, folks through the years filled in for me when I made that 900 mi. round trip home–and it was alwaysicy and snowy. Now it’s my turn.

It’ll be fine. I have books stocked up, the woofer is always my pack, the food is on order–a killer crab recipe from 'Nawlins, and a turkey and ham for the Mission–and my sis will use up her “minutes” while we open our packages over the phone.
It’ll be good. Maybe not traditional or “made for TV”–or Martha Stewart–perfect, but honestly fine.

Wishing all the best to all assembled here,
Veb

Due to being on call for work over the Christmas break, we will be staying home and just having a few friends over. Just a quiet time, hopefully. All the relatives live about 700 km away so we won’t be seeing them until sometime in the new year.
Everyone have a wonderful X-Mas and a great new year…

This will be the first time in 15 years I haven’t just stayed home and worked thru the holidays. Some friends and I are leaving for central/western France on the 21st, and coming back on the 2nd or 3rd.

I’m hosting this year. Woohoo! Fella bilong missus flodnak’s parents and one unmarried brother are coming to Casa Flodnak. The unmarried brother is invited to make sure we’re not stuck with a ton of leftovers. (We think he’s part camel. He eats half his own bodyweight at a sitting, then goes for several days before he bothers to eat again.)

My mom-in-law used to host Xmas Eve for anybody who wanted to show up, but has begun to push the duty over to me, and I honestly don’t mind. I’d decorate and make cookies and all that for the kids anyway, so the only thing I’m doing extra is making supper, and how hard is a ham dinner? MIL is a rather unimaginative cook anyway (too many years of cooking for too many picky eaters), so I’d rather do things My Way. And when the baby gets tired, we can just take him upstairs and pop him in his crib.

Supper will be roast ham, sweet potatoes, boiled potatoes, Norwegian pickled red cabbage, brown gravy with a little bit of mustard, sour little Swedish pickles, and lignonberry jam. Norwegian rice pudding with sweet raspberry sauce for dessert; cookies and coffee after the presents are opened. Who’s coming?

I have sworn off Christmas travel. Too cold, too crowded. I like to go home and see the folks during the summer.
