I'll pay someone 1 million dollars if they can identify this song for me.

Good song. Very good song. Not it, though. Don’t even have to listen to it to know that, cause it’s one of my favorite songs.

Sure, I’ll give that a try. But that’ll have to be when I get off work as well. Plus, I’m certainly no wealth of music info, so I envision the call going something like this:
IT: OK, so it’s ‘hey hey hey hey hey,’ and then ‘hey hey hey hey hey.’
BR: Shit, you got me. Sounds pretty good though.

What time do you go to bed way over there in Arizona? I can probably call you during lunch.

Yeah, I’m guessing that too, but at least someone else will know how it’s sung. Also, there’s the chance you may have heard it, at least, but won’t know who it is. It might be the “I’ve heard it before/it sounds familiar” curse.

One song that matches is Southern Culture on the Skids “I Learned to Dance in Mississippi”, from this album, “Dirt Track Date”. Sorry. searched about, and couldn’t find easy downloads of the song. If it is that song, I have a really great “rest of the story” on it.

What are the other lyrics? Any?

I don’t know, are they mainstream enough to be played on the radio?

I’ve heard this song in question a few times when in my local drug store, playing over the speakers…and nope, I don’t know any other parts or lyrics…just the chorus that goes
“I said hey hey hey hey hey hey a bit lower pitched hey hey hey hey hey hey lower still hey hey hey hey. pause much lower and softer now hey hey hey hey…”
Most of the "Hey"s are said close together so that it really sounds more like:
“I said heyeyeyeyeyey…heyayayayayay…heyayay…now heyeyeyey…”

Kinda unlikely, but they have risen in popularity, so dunno. Other lyrics would help.

Mostly, the Hey Heys were loud, tho, so maybe not the song. you’re asking about. Still, a great song.

Okay, I have finally figured out how to upload the clip of me singing the line in the tune I know it’s in. I should have it ready in about 10 or 15 minutes (it’s uploading slowly).

Okay, everyone. Here is a video of me singing the line in question. Keep in mind it MAY be out of tune a little, but the rough tune of it is as follows:

Does that part/tune/song sound familar to ANYONE?

It’s not the Chili Peppers, is it? Probably not, I know, but now this is driving me nuts, too!

ETA: After following your link, I know it’s definitely not RHCP. Auugh!

Oh, good, the soundclip works. Isn’t my singing horrible?
Does it sound familar to you?

My thoughts on the “video” (in chronological order)

  1. Get on with it, man
  2. “Waiting is the hardest part…” (Tom Petty)
  3. … but then it just got lower and lower. Sounded like a Native American song to me.

Sorry I can’t ID it for you. Just trying to help those that can’t access the video.

Another possibility?

It doesn’t really match what you sang (perfectly well, btw! :)), but the band sounds like what you described…

Howzabout “Bitch” by The Goo Goo Dolls, with Lance Diamond, from the No Alternative album? Youtube Link

The “I said hey hey hey” part starts at 2:57. It also ends the same way as your clip ends.

Not a Native American song…it’s definitely a song by a recent group and would be played on regular radio. It’s probably a song by a band or artist I know but just don’t know that they sing that song.

Whoa, not a chance. It’s too fast and the one I’m thinking of is slower. It’s also not as loud or aggressive, haha. But very good suggestion and song. Never heard it before and I like it.

Nope, that’s not it. But it has the same “sound” as the one I’m trying to find.

How about “Hey Hey” by Dispatch? The hey heys like you sang start at about 2:13.

The song I’m trying to find has the exact same number of "hey"s as I sang in my clip. No more/no less. The only thing I’m not sure of is the wording…whether it’s “I said hey hey…” “Said hey hey…” “And I said hey hey…” or “Now hey hey…”

To me, your clip sounds vaguely like “Far Behind” by Candlebox, but that song is pretty popular, you probably know it already, and it was released much longer ago (10+ years). So I’m betting I’m wrong, but hey, that cool million is tempting.

Geez, I never knew so many songs had “Hey, hey, hey” in it.

That’s not it, but it’s the closest so far! I almost thought it was it at first…it has the same sound, tone, speed, all that. Seriously, that’s a close match. It even sounds like the same voice. Only the chorus in the song I’m trying to find is sung by one person during the “hey’s”, not two.
It almost sounds eeriely like it, though. I even thought (before they started on the hey’s) that they were leading up to make it sound like the one I’m looking for.

With how close we’re getting here, you’d think one of the next ones will be it.

Hey,” by the Butthole Surfers?
