At 4am Sunday morning I shall be heading off to the Ventian Riviera for a week with my wonderful partner Alex B. I cannot wait. We’re going to visit Venice and Lake Garda and maybe Padua. But mostly we’re going to chill on the beach.
After a tough year I recently became employed again (with the ambulance service. You want an ambulance? You call me.) and I cannot wait for this break.
Kferr: I have a suspicion we may meet a new Italian small sheep over there. Alex has been dropping hints. But we’ll probably take Phillip and one other sheep anyway, just because they like holidays.
Incidentally, Mortimer The Travelling Sheep made it accross Europe with Lauren and changed hands in Montreal. He’s on his way to Minnesota right now. He’s having a grand adventure.
Did I show you their website? (click on pictures for Factfiles)
Yes I’m jealous. I’ve never been to Venice. How did you pick the hotel? Will you be staying on the canal? How many canals are there vs. actual city streets? Is it true that Piazza San Marco is overrun with pigeons? Will you take the time to see the Doge’s palace?
We’re not staying in Venice proper - we’re staying about 30 minutes out of town in Lido de Jesolo. We picked the hotel because it was in the brochure and it’s in a quiet area and they promise to feed us (and they have their own private area of beach).
Hopefully we’ll have time to see the Doge’s palace - we’re still undecided if we’re going to make our own way around Venice or go with a pre-arranged excursion thingie. We’ll probably make our own way and go a few times so we can see everything.
I’ve heard that the Square is overrun with pigeons, but I did live a five minute walk away from Trafalgar Square a few years ago so that’s not really a novelty
I’ll report back to you on the canals vrs streets. I get the impression that the whole place is just one big bridge.
