Ike: the first two I got (and dutifully noted for chastisement/enlightenment), but the third?
WHOOSH! Guess I had to be there.

There is a poster on another forum I read with the unmentionable name. Whenever I see him post, I always wonder.
He seeeeeeeeeemmmmssss normal, but I have been afraid to ask him if he has ever heard of the SD. I guess the web is big enough for that to be a coincidence, but it still makes me think of the crap he pulled over here.
Uke:
Hmm…were you the one that left the pig’s heart and dead roses on my front stoop? I couldn’t make out the name that was scrawled below the sonnet about “blood”, “mud”, “cud” and “HUD”. I apologize for snubbing you so rudely if so.
Freedom2: Let’s just be [sub]vewwy vewwy quiet[/sub] and hope HWSNBN (if it is HWSNBN) doesn’t notice us over here…
No thanks anyway, ExTank, I’ve choked back bile under worse provocation and not lost composure.
Just for the record, I come from plain, uncomplicated patriots who served as citizen-warriors when needed. But uncomplicated doesn’t mean stupid or unsubtle.
I doubt if anyone could get the living assembled crew to agree on a political issue, much less sort out the entwined twigs and roots of the family tree. But every damned on them of 'em agree on one thing: military is different. They were citizen warriors who took up arms when needed and learned the hard military code.
What I’m saying is they somehow stayed citizens even after serving as godawful, lethal warriors. They can’t agree on side dishes at Thanksgiving, much less politics.
But every one of 'em took something away from the fight, WWII, Korea, Nam and beyond: a lasting respect for the different voices, faces and people they fought beside. Maybe it was war or military tradition, but they’re some of the toughest, funniest, fairest people I know.
They taught me citizen/warriors fought with standards; messy, imperfect, but real.
One of those standards was respect.
So I still judge actions by that standard.

**Gaudere: **
Remember, the pig heart was done en casserole with artichokes, celeriac, Gruyere, and a touch of tarragon.
I’m a classy stalker, anyway.
TVeblen: I hear what you’re saying, and agree.
While I still feel I had a point, I also recognize that I went about addressing it very poorly.
My problem being, I feel what I feel about issues a bit more strongly than maybe I should, and I’m also not signifigantly differnet IRL than I am here, on this fairly anonymous electronic medium. Several Dopers who have met me IRL will attest to that claim.
I play by “The Golden Rule” and expect (perhaps unrealistically so on the internet; but by and large, I feel that Dopers generally do, and that our moderators do a good job in keeping the trolls in check) reciprocity.
So when I percieve someone talking trash and using the internet and screen names to hide behind words that I’m sure they would never utter IRL to someone they are having an argument/discussion with, I take exception (usually in a better manner, but occasionally worse, as recently witnessed).
The subject itself really doesn’t matter, it’s just a catalyst.
I’m not proud of my recent behavior, but I take solace, as should the rest of the Teeming Millions, from the knowledge that it’s the extreme exception, rather than the rule. Otherwise I would have been booted long ago.
Everyone’s entitled to a bad day, and I’ve forgiven plenty of Dopers who have lashed out at me in a moment of pique (you shoud’ve seen some of the discussion Slythe and I had over Gun Control, which is why, by unspoken mutual agreement, we don’t debate that particular topic anymore).
Fair 'nuf?
Glad to see that you’re coming down from the clocktower, Tank. I think you’re one of the most well-spoken posters on the board, and if you got banned, there’d be no one left to tell us hilarious tank stories.
Thanks, Jester, but be careful with gratuitous praise; my “ego” might not fit in well with other’s on this board.
Hang on in there, even if I don’t agree with much of your politics.
I’d hate the place to become sterile and comfortable.
ExTank, the reason I like seeing your posts is that (when you’re not getting all defensive over provocative statements other people make) you present your viewpoints calmly and persuasively, with specific reasons and facts to back them up. This means I always open a thread with your name in the “Thread Starter” or “Last Post” columns, even though I disagree with some of your political views.
Glad to see you’ve stopped banging your head against the bar, friend. <…slides over an ice bag…>
Ha! A true friend would have a beer in that bag o’ ice. Attack the cranial dysfuntion from multiple fronts, that’s my motto. At least wherever free beer’s involved.
I cite cites becuse others more intelligent and enlightened than myself have set an axample that I try to emulate. It is an exercise in research and exploration that I feel has made me a smarter, more cogent thinker (nonwithstanding recent events). Cecil (and other smart folks here) have triumphed in at least one small regard.
If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then I am kissing their butts in adulation.
Speaking strictly metaphorically, of course!
Y’all pull your trousers back up and stop waving your butt-cheeks at me.
Fair 'nuff, ExTank, and my apologies to you in return for being testier than usual.

TVeblen: being as this is the Pit and you were just saying what was on your mind (in a pointed and thoughtful manner not mandated by The Pit rules) I took no offense, and even took a lesson/reminder from your appropriate rebuke.
Hey Ex Tank, you lying sack of shit. Earlier in this thread you wrote:
I never started such a thread…nor do I recall having participated in one of a similar title…so fuck you for dragging my name through the mud.
Hey, where ya been, K.O.? Alpha Centauri?
