I'm actually watching "Making The Band"

… and I’m over the age of 20. Over 30, let’s be honest. I can’t remember how we started watching this ludicrous show, but we did, got interested, and… I actually found myself --dare I admit it – getting emotionally involved last week! AIGH!

Anyone else willing to confess they’ve watched this? For those of you with something to do on Friday nights and haven’t heard of it, it’s basically about how they go about picking the male hotties for the next NSync/BackStreet Boys band. Follows the aspirants around, not unlike The Real World.

O the shame. Now, must run and pick up the latest Tiger Beat…

Don’t bands have to play instuments?

Would that this were the ONLY thing wrong with this show’s concept, Fred…

Not anymore, you old-fashioned silly. Now you just have to look great and have the right commercial packaging. You’re not a musician, you’re a product. Kind of like being a so-called “supermodel”; abosolutely no substance is required, just the right facade and the willingness to be whored out. Actual talent, or the ability to sing, write, or play, is in fact not really in keeping with the spirit of the thing these days, and to tell the truth, it would just get in the way of the A & R folks getting their jobs done. (Think about it, how would you like to try to convince Einstein - okay, if he were alive - to walk the runway to show off this fall season’s new wool coats? He’d resist and just be a big pain about the whole thing. Better to just go straight to Ricky Martin with the job.) What in the world makes you think the music business actually has anything to do with music these days? BWAAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAA!!!

But please, don’t get me started.
