This from a man who wants respect shown to a shitheel just because he holds an office, regardless of the atrocities he has committed in Iraq, the disregard for the constitution he’s shown, his rapacious greed, and his utter contempt for anyone who disagrees with him.
You are one of the biggest assholes I’ve seen on the web. And I’ve seen goatse guy.
Apparently. Or not. You’d certainly not be the first person to wonder.
But you did say
Now, did I misunderstand what you meant when you said “I’ll be voting Repub in state elections”? Yes, you made your point on the Alabama Governer. But I’m going to guess he’s not the only ‘state election’ this year. You’re not voting Third Party (which any realistic American rightly views as either a protest vote or a wasted vote). You’re not voting Democrat.
So, you’re voting to keep a Red state Red. Am I incorrect?
My priority is not whether the state remains red or not. I was using the parlance of our times as shorthand anyway. My priority is electing the best possible person for the job. In this case, I believe that’s a Republican. It won’t be the case for all the other offices.
Besides. Follow Zoe’s link. “Red state” and “blue state” are ludicrously oversimplified terms.
You’re right, it is. Well, Zoe is right. Both of you. You know what I mean.
But let me ask you this one, and then we can kiss and make up (or at least shake hands). What is the real, actual, practical, empirical, demonstrable effect of the Winds of Change you posted about in this thread?
Well, I’m hoping that the plummeting approval ratings for this national administration will remain dismally low through this year and spur a major gain in Democratic Congressional seats, as more moderate Republicans become dissatisfied with the ridiculously bad job Bush and pals are doing.
Remember, the political pendulum swings. Nothing can stop that. I think (well, I hope) that we’ve hit as far right as we’re going to go in terms of politics, and we’re swinging back toward the center again.
A few months back, I thought that the Pit thread about why actor Colin Farrell should be in jail for his scenes with a young lady in The New World should get the unofficial SDMB award for Stupidest Thread of the Year.
Now I must rethink that position–and nominate this thread for another dubious distinction: Thread That Makes the Biggest Fucking Mountain out of the Tiniest Fucking Molehill.
The problem is, we’ve seen the beginning of the Rove Dynasty. Rove has stated quite clearly (I heard this on the radio, so can’t provide a cite) that he wants to see the Republicans in power for the next 40-50 years. And how much of an opposition do you think would exist if he were successful?
Even now, the backswing on Bush is mostly for the wrong reasons. They’re pissed at Bush because the war in Iraq is killing too many Americans, and because it’s costing a lot of tax dollars, and because gas prices are high. They apparently don’t care that the reasons we went in were entirely fabricated, that the post-invasion situation wasn’t considered at all, let alone competently, that tens of thousands of *Iraqis * have lost their lives and millions more had their lives torn apart and largely destroyed, and all for absolutely nothing except a regime change from a personal, secular tyrant to a probable religious tyranny (or civil war) instead. You don’t hear these folks objecting to torture or limitless, chargeless imprisonment; you don’t hear them objecting to domestic spying; you don’t hear them objecting to the attempts to blur the lines between church and state or the real eagerness to curtail civil liberties that this administration appears to have.
The majority of voters in this country appear to be lazy, and perfectly willing to allow impulsive emotions to sway their politics. And Rove is brilliant at appealing to exactly that kind of voter. So I don’t have a lot of faith in the pendulum this time around. I wish I did!
Purely anecdotal, but I can verify this on the personal level. The same people who wanted to lynch Clinton and said all sorts of things against him, on every possible subject, suddenly became superpatriots when Bush took over. Anyone who dissed Dear Leader became a traitor. Does the word hypocrite come to mind to anyone else???
I’m a white male gay Catholic. I still don’t knpw if I’m liberal or moderate and really don’t care. Somehow even with the horror of all that (?) I’ve somehow muddled through and made a very nice life for myself.
Yet another poster that manages to capture my depair with the current state of affairs the USA. And yes, as per usual disclaimer, I hope he’s wrong too.
I do get a bit of hope from lucid posts such as the one above…
A “jackoff rock-and-roller” is a lot better than a jackoff president and a million times better than jackoff assholes on message boards who think that jackoff presidents are above criticism.
They probably asked the hotel, after which the hotel found out there was an existing reservation and asked Jagger’s people if they’d be willing to reschedule. Somebody along the way realized that it was a juicy gossip tip.
A note: In New York State, third party votes are not wasted, provided the same candidate runs for both the third party and the main. It’s a nice system.
Clothahump, you seem to love our country a lot, but you don’t show much understanding of some of our basic principles.
The Presidency of the United States is an important office, but the person who holds that office is not superior to you. Mr. Bush is there to serve you and other Americans. It is a privilege for him to hold that job.
He owes us respect. We earned it by giving him the job. Whether or not we respect him personally is an individual matter. And so is the way in which we show respect for the Office of the Presidency.
Since you have so much “respect” for the office, I’m surprised that you would use a racial term that would include and offend members of the President’s family.
So, given Clothahump’s behaviour as well as that of others, what’s the incentive for this centerist, independent to join the Conservative Confabulation? I’m afraid I don’t need a toaster.
Haven’t been posting much lately… and this thread looked interesting… what with it being about The Rolling Stones AND President Bush at the same time. And yet, lo and behold, once again, somehow Miller feels compelled to remind us that he’s gay. Millers’ sexuality has got fuck all to do with this thread of course, but he just HAD to remind us yet again. Dude? Why not start a website dedicated to yourself? I’m sure those hits are gonna roll in.
I know, I know… I’m a dumb fuck and if I wrote down every bit of my knowledge here on this page, it wouldn’t take long at all. But you know something, Miller? If I wrote down everything BOTH of us know, it wouldn’t take any longer.
Oh, and regarding Mick Jagger? I can just imagine his cheeky smirk. But the guy who REALLY woulda been cacking himself woulda been Keef.
