I'm back, again, at least for now....

As some of you may recall, I asked some advice in a thread a while back about my move to Western Pennsylvania.

I’m here now, and have been for about 6 weeks or so.

It’s a totally different place from Sacramento, let me tell you!

So, our trip was uneventful, for the most part, and we’re mostly settled into the new house (expect home improvement threads from me) and I finally got myself a job.

An hour commute, but it’s ok. I’ll do alright, as soon as I can get a reliable car.

So I’m back. Any questions?

Having been to neither locations myself, what is the biggest geographical adjustment you are having to make?
Are the people different?

Why did you move to PA?

I guess I missed your earlier thread, but until this latest move, I was up there for over a year on assignment. Greensburg, PA, to be exact.

Yeah, it’s gonna be an adjustment. But, I think you’ll like the people there. And, FWIW, Hoss’s Steak and Seafood is a pretty decent low-cost lunch/dinner option. They’re everywhere in western(or is that Western?) Pennsylvania.

If you’re in the Greensburg area, I could recommend an EXCELLENT dental place. Completely state of the art. (no, no big issues here, I just had to have a crown re-cemented. But hearing I was a techie guy, the head dentist gave me a tour of their stuff.)

I don’t know how you will react to the change in climate, but I really found the folk there to be truly “salt of the earth” folk. Best Wishes!

If you’ve been in Penna. since the end of June, why didn’t you come to Gettysdope?

Me?

If you’re refering to me, I worked there Mon-Fri, then went home for the weekend. (home late Friday night, had all day Saturday, flew back to PIT Sunday afternoon)

Would’ve loved to, but no time to do it. Maybe someday, in Honolulu?

Nah, actually I was talking to Tristan, who said he’d been in PA for “six weeks or so.”

So, Tristan, howd’ya like the near 100 degree temps we brought in the last few weeks, just to make you feel as though you were back in Sacramento.

If you plan on buying a used car, make sure you take into consideration that you aren’t in sunny CA. but Western Pa., where older cars have a lot of rust. Just saying.

twickster- To be honest, I hadn’t thought of Gettysdope as I figured I would be unpacking and trying to find a job… and I was right! Working for del Monte now, in the big old Heinz building. What a trip!

samclem- Yeah, I just picked up a beat up 92 Accord. With rusted quarter panels. Talk about a different type of wear and tear! And yeah, the heat here wasn’t nearly as bad as in Sac, but the humidity… wow. Just… wow.

Cabin Fever- The biggest change is in the weather. It’s not as hot as in Sacramento, but the humidity really takes it out of you. And we get some serious thunder storms around here, which is super great. I love the thunder! Also, it’s so frickin’ green around here! Trees everywhere! The only other thing that I’ve noticed is that even in the rural areas between my place and Pittsburgh, there’s more people. In Sacramento, you head towards Reno, and once your past Placerville, that’s it. But here, it’s a constant trickle of small towns, boro’s and townships. Weird.

The people are certainly different in mindset than my California experience. And folks seem to take religion much more seriously here… the small town I live in (7000 or so folks) has something like 11 churches. Possibly more. It’s odd, but interesting.

Now that I’m working, hopefully I’ll adjust a little faster.
