i'm broken hearted about Robert Downey, Jr.

Alrighty then.

  1. The word “fuck” in itself does not offend me. It is used in various manners throughout this thread. Such a versatile word.

  2. “Lighten up” is not something I like to see in MPSIMS, but it isn’t a mortal sin per se either.

  3. “Lighten the fuck up” is pretty drastic, and would normally prompt me to address a poster BY NAME.

Now then, why did I not do this? Why did I just make a general announcement, not naming individual posters?
Because I saw two perfectly intelligent guys resuming an old fight in the wrong forum.

Since you both ought to know better, I thought my quick remark would suffice.

Got it Coldfire. I did not see it as such. But, I will refrain from using said phrase in MPSIMS in the future. sorry.

There are several folks* here who seem to be in great need of some sleep. Or aren’t sharing…
*Like me.

Hate to get back to the TOPIC, but:

I dont cotton to jal time for users either. They dont hurt anyone else. He wasnt driving, or roaming the streets, jees, if the man cant have privacy…

Sadly, what many do in the privacy and anonomity of their own homes becomes open hunting season for celebs.

Yosemitebabe, yeah he knew, but should he go to jail for abusing his body?
I think not!

Whats next? Outlawing masturbation?

I’m pretty upset about Downey, too. He’s an ultraconservative right-wing nut who shouldn’t have a talk show in the first place. Oh, sorry, I thought we were talking about Morton Downey, Jr.

Truth be told, Robert Downey is living the “young actor with too much money” lifestyle, which tends to involve numbing the brain with illegal chemicals on a regular basis. The guy will most likely show up soon in a CNN news nugget showing him apologizing profusely to a judge and claiming he has “no excuses” for his behavior. But really he’s not sorry. The guy just wants to get high to escape the fact that he has to play opposite a crazy, anorexic stick of a woman in a quirky show revolving around her adherence to outdated moral standards and belief in the “There’s a perfect mate for me out there, somewhere” nonsense.

At this point I’d like to reveal my bias - I’ve had Callista Flockhart in the office dead pool for a year and a half. It’s about time that she succumbs to her obsession with maintaining a 85-pound physique and makes me some damned money, already.

I have to disagree here, they do hurt or at least endanger others. For some reason 911 was called, that caused police and maybe an ambulance to respond, everytime we get in our vehicles and turn on the lights we are in dangering our lives. To go help someone who does stupid stuff.
I think he has been given several chances to get help and has proven he doesn’t want it, so before he can get high again and endanger others he should be committed to a mental hospital and be allowed to remain there for as long as he can draw a breath. Too many people out there want and need help to waste time on people who don’t want it.IMHO

Ah Nerts. I really enjoy Robert’s acting. It’s too bad that drug has such a hold on him. He was at his best doing Chaplin. Damn it. I’m renting it tonight.

Maybe RDJ and Daryl Strawberry can share a cell?

I gotta agree with Yosemitebabe here; he knew the consequences for getting caught. Again. And again…

I am of the opinion that drug offenders in prison are a waste of time and money for the taxpayers, but by and large you gotta live within the confines of the law until it’s changed.

Baretta said it best: Don’t do the crime if you cant’ do the time. And hey, keep your eye on the sparrow!

Apparently, there was a call made to the cops that Mr. Downey had drugs etc in his hotel room, not a 911 call. One wonders if the tipster would have bothered had it been “Fred Downey”, certainly the papers wouldn’t have responded the same way.

That really sucks for him. He needs serious help (I doubt he’s really had any - Betty Ford Clinic? Puh-lease) or he’ll be dead.

He seems bent on continually screwing the pooch, as it were. I can’t see how he’ll stay on Ally Mcbeal. Here’s what I’m wondering - do you think the very first thing the producers made them film when he joined the show was his “out” episode.
. . .

“Robert, just in case we need to, lets film the scene where you fall off the roof of the building under that steam roller. Not that we plan on airing it, but it IS part of your probation. You understand.”

I’ve liked Downey as an actor ever since his wonderful performance in “Less than Zero”. (Prophetic though it appears to have been.) However I cannot have any sympathy for him. It pisses me off to see someone so talented and so so well recieved in a very lucrative business such as his throw it all away on a buzz. The death of River Phoenix pissed me the hell off. The young man had a sterling career ahead of him. He had a ticket to ride. He’d already been given roles most young actors would kill to get. Then he blows it all catching a buzz.

The circumstances behind this lastest bust for Downey do seem a little strange. Who would “tip off” the police and why bother to bust some lone guy in a hotel room getting high? I wonder if the real circumstances will ever come to light. I wonder if Fox will keep him on now. That is if he doesn’t go back to jail.

The guy certainly doesn’t have to worry about where he gets his bread and butter. Why isn’t a good career enough for this man to give him something worthwhile to live? It just blows my mind. He’s a waste.

What I want to know is how long the industry is going to keep giving him second chances. He’s got to be a hell of a liability.

And FTR, I think it’s incredibly sad. He’s wasting his talent, his life. I really feel sorry for his son.

legalize it.
An addiction is bad enough if you dont get punished for it.
(And no, I dont think more ppl would do drugs if it was legal)

poor guy… :frowning:

dodgy

I have to admit that Callista Flockhart is more than a wee bit thin for my taste but I wouldn’t call her a freak. IMHO a woman should have some more flesh on her bones. She’s not completely off my scale but let’s just say we’d have to make it a logarithmic scale to fit her on it. She doesn’t inhabit my fantasies but she’s quite pretty in an elfin sort of way.

My former husband was a drug addcit, and he didn’t give it up til he was ready.
Its difficult, I’m sure, but I hope Robert reaches that point soon.
And it would be sad even if he wasn’t famous or a good actor.
Though I am surprised to agree with Stoid on the yumminess factor; my taste in men is quite eclectic-Joey Ramone, a certain politician, but I must be becoming more mainstream in my old age.

I wonder if RDJ has ever seen Less Than Zero. It’s about this guy who gets addicted to coke, y’see, and… Oh. Never mind.

FWIW, I voted for the proposition (36?) that would send drug abusers to rehab instead of jail. It passed.

According to the article I read earlier today…the guy’s been in rehab 8 times in less than 4 years! This is a situation just like Vanilla has said…they guy has to want to quit. He’s been going through the motions. Perhaps he should be denied his livelyhood for awhile. Perhaps blackballing him would be a good thing for him. He’s worked thoughout all of this, even in between trips to the pokey. Regular people don’t often get these many chances. They certainly don’t get chance after chance at a potential multi-million dollar career.

Or breaking into strangers houses and falling asleep in little girls beds…

Oh dear. Another Celebrity is in trouble because of drugs.

Question is, we’ve just now found out he was doing them, say, a week ago? When did he start? When he got out of jail? Did he wait that long?

He knows he’s going back, the judge has every right to either (A) Throw the book at him or (B) Commit him to involuntary drug treatment.

We are not guaranteed that (B) will actually stick. (A) will keep him somewhat safe, if not free to pollute the TV and Movie screens. Needless to say, I don’t feel sorry for the moron. He knew what he was doing, he knew the price one would pay for being caught. He can face the music by himself.
