IMHO, the VP nom is what Bachmann’s been angling at this whole time. She’s not stupid, and she has to know she’s unelectable.
Oh, man, I hadn’t considered that. You don’t suppose Romney would fall for that, do you? It is too much to hope for.
I don’t mean to hijack, but I’m honestly curious… what have you seen from her to make you believe either of those things?
Probably confused it with ineluctable.
She appeals to a very narrow band of people and the rest of the country can’t stand her. The same could be said about Palin, but Bachmann actually seems to recognize that that’s a problem and is working on other options instead of threatening to shoot all of us.
Unlike Obama , Bushy and the Republicans inherited a vibrant economy with small unemployment and a balanced budget. It is great how the Republican ethic was able to totally fuck it up . It would be hard to do it that badly unless that was what you wanted to do. Some people believe the Republicans were deliberately bankrupting the US to convince the people all support programs for the poor and middle class have to be dismantled. We can not afford them anymore.
But we can run 2 wars without paying for them. We can over and over cut taxes for the wealthy taking all the money out of the government and hollow out taxes for corporations. You do not have to be a genius to figure out that those actions will make us go broke. You would have to be really dumb not to realize it was deliberate.
If I was planning on bankrupting the US, I would do what Bush did. It was a great plan. It was foretold by the Repubs saying they wanted to make the government as small as possible ,and then flush all support programs down the toilet. That is what they are still working on. Watch the Repub debate. They are attacking Medicare, Social Security and any other program for the poor .
Somehow the military budget is affordable. Somehow tax cuts for the wealthy are still affordable. Somehow we can keep low taxes on corporations . But don’t be poor and sick. They don’t care if you die.
I think Palin’s problem is she thinks “John McCain and I got sixty million votes in 2008. That means thirty million people voted for me.”
I think Bachmann may have started out with a realistic plan to try for the vice presidency. But Bachmann’s connection with reality is always tenuous. I think she may have convinced herself she can win this election. She may not understand that the fact that few thousand Iowans are willing to vote for you in a poll if you pay them to do it doesn’t indicate you have broad national support.
One thing you seem to be leaving out is the stock market bubble that burst prior to him taking office. Stocks plummeted and huge companies went from being the darlings of Wall Street to being out of business. But I guess that’s probably his fault, too, right?
Word! Every conservative commentator on this board, on television, on the radio, in print, should have to explain why they will not fuck things up just as badly in 2012 as they did in 2000-2008, because they sure did fuck up royally. They have a LOT to answer for, but they just slide on by and ignore it in favor of “Obama this/Obama that.” People need to be reminded VIVIDLY of just how bad the conservative/Republicans have fucked up. Plus, their NEW IMPROVED plan of cutting back government and lowering taxes on corporations is EXACTLY what got us in trouble back in the Bush years.
Frankly, I"m deeply disappointed in Obama. But I’m fricking HORRIFIED by the Republicans!
I’m distinguishing her from Palin. Clearly, Bachmann says many stupid things, but unlike Palin she doesn’t actually seem to believe them. More importantly, she’s never been silly enough to try running for anything beyond her own House seat; she knows she can’t win a statewide election in Minnesota.
However, she has toned down her comments a little since entering the Republican nomination race. Not enough to turn off her batshit brigade, but enough to keep from turning off independents who don’t know anything about her.
Witness her quick about-face on the Paul Ryan economic plan when people realized everyone left of Newt would oppose it.
Either way, she has to have seen this stuff:
I have no reason to doubt either Palin’s or Bachmann’s sincerity. They act and sound like conservative True Believers to me.
I think it’s the complete opposite. Bachmann is the true believer, Palin is just an opportunist.
Obama does not by any objective measure “hate America” and any attempt to claim he does is just nonsense. Read The Audacity of Hope. His love of America is plain to see on every page. (Actually, don’t read it; you might catch teh librul.)
The Republican strategy is bound to backfire. How are you supposed to get votes out of the poor and unemployed when you talk shit about these very same people and announce at every opportunity that they don’t deserve any government help because they’re freeloaders, leeches, etc? So if voter anger is high amongst the downtrodden right now, imagine what it will be like after four years of a Republican president rewarding his rich friends and punishing the poor for being poor. Obama tries to help the poor and middle class. The Republicans have made it clear that they won’t. “Vote for me because I won’t help you at all!” isn’t a great platform to run on.
Obama’s policies haven’t failed; they were never enacted in the first place. It’s really clever for the Republicans to kill all of Obama’s policies in the womb (OMG abortion!!!) and then blame him for not being able to get anything done. No one will ever see through that trick.
I’m with you. My impression is that Palin is just a megalomaniac. Bachmann has lots of fun manias.
Reading the OP was like reading the comments on Youtube.
A president worth his salt rides around on a donkey. When he has something to say, he pantomimes a story with shadow puppets for the children so they can interpret and pass on his message to everyone else.
If the election were held today, Obama might be in trouble. But, wait, the election won’t actually be held for a year and two months. We don’t even know yet who the Republican candidate will be.
pkbites, do you believe that no matter who the Republican candidate is, that that candidate will defeat Obama?
Obama is definately not as bad as Jimmy Carter (probably the last President without any positive accomplishments in office) and I say this as a Republican.
While he has largely failed to improve the economy and in social issues wisely has supported a hands-off policy letting the states decide, in foreign policy he has been a reasonable success killing Osama Bin Laden and other Al-Qaeda leaders, bravely supporting raids into Pakistan (despite the complaints of that treacherous ally), waging a campaign of assassination against terrorist leaders, launching a surge in Afghanistan, helping the Libyan rebels, and smoothly withdrawing from Iraq-of course many of these polices were originated by President Bush.
Really? You list a bunch of accomplishments, and then with a straight face, give all the credit to Bush?
Why does anyone bother addressing pkbites here anymore? Like his assessment of Obama’s chance of re-election, he’s finished. He’s likely not coming back.
