OK, this is what I’m looking for. I need a car that, out the door, is $10,000 (give or take a few hundred). I would really like a 5-speed and it can’t be faster than a 0-60 time of 7 seconds. I’ve been looking at the BMW 318i ('95 and '96). I don’t want a small Japanese car like the Civic, Integra, Eclipse, etc. So, are there any other cars that are comparable, performance and price wise, to the BMW? Thanks 
You can probably get a used VW Golf or Jetta for that much or less with little difficulty… I don’t know why you’re giving that acceleration restriction - it’s going to be much harder to find a car that cheap with that big an engine given your parameters here.

Take a look at the mazda RX-7. I`ve had two(older ones), they were fun to drive. Great performance and awsome handling, plus the five speed thing you want.
