I'm done. I've had it.

Cut the drama. Geez, you think that your political views should be immune from criticism when nobody else’s is? Jesus, the conservative posters you whine about get criticized heavily for their politics, yet you don’t find (most of) them crybabying that they are being persecuted as you do.

Could you be any more pompous? “A sad but necessary decision”–just take a break and come back when you feel better. This thread is just a cry for feeding your vanity and self-love, and I’m not going to play, You add a lot to this board from a far-left perspective, you also tend to crownd the room with your over-inflated sense of your own importance and your corresponding lack of humor.

Take a break, get some perspective, and come back when you feel better. But this low-rent Greta Garbo act ought to close out of town.

I have to admit that I’m not overly familiar with your posting history, but are politics all you talk about here?

What about Cafe Society and GQ? Those are probably my two favorite forums here. I mean, there’s a hell of a lot more going on on the SDMB than politics. I know it’s hard to see it in an election year but there is.

Damn, I’ve always wanted to use the word fora. I finally got my chance and I blew it.

Cry me a fucking river.

  1. Being a ‘revolutionary Socialist’ puts you in the same group as Nazis, Al Queda, or any other supremely intolerant violent group from days gone by. You may make claims that you are all about the peace and love, but history shows that when ‘revolutionary Socialists’ seize power, lots of people die. In my case, family died. Like hell I will give you a ‘pass’ for your wickedly fucked and twisted beliefs.

  2. If the odd non sequitor mention in a thread gets you sobbing like a school girl, you ain’t gonna be much of a ‘revolutionary’. Heck, I get regular mention in various ‘Bush is like Satan only worse’ threads, but the tears just aren’t there. Laugh it off, or come up with a reasonable response, or pit the fellow responsible, but throwing your hands up in surrender? Tremendously nancy of you.

Olentzero, based on your shitting on the Iraq war hero threads, and now this whiny tirade, all I have to say is click the link below and follow the instructions:

https://videos.somethingawful.com/oldflash/images/shutup.swf

By the way, isn’t there a rule saying that anyone who posts a “WAAHHHH IM LEAVING U GUYS SUK!” will be banned?

As usual, your eyes are brown. As I’ve pointed out to you before, and you pointedly ignored, when the Sandanistas took power in Nicaragua, they held an election, lost to a center-right coalition, and surrendered the government to them. All by the numbers, all according to the book.

If you can’t support your political positions without lies, what fucking good are you?

You are a useless prattling sack of shit. The fucking Sandinistas killed thousands * when they fucking seized power*. One of these days, you will actually address something relevant to the thread at hand. I look forward to that day, but I ain’t holding my breath.

No?

Oh, please do! I can back up my assertions with cites, testimony, news reports, etc. Can you, buttmunchkin? The regime the Sandanistas displaced was vicious, murderous, and vile. Are you proposing to defend them as noble anti-Communist patriots?

Any time you’re ready, any forum you choose, I will wipe the floor with your sorry ass.

Bring it on.

As much as I detest the Sandinistas as a pack of corrupt kleptocrats, 'Luci is bang on in his facts. Ortega did give up power in a peaceful transition when he lost the 1990 elections to Violetta Chamorro. Anastasio Somoza, the leader the Sandinistas overthrew, was a vile thug who ran a disgusting authoritarian regime and robbed the country blind. Hell, he even pocketed the relief funds contributed by donors after the 1972 Managua earthquake.

You can’t win this one, Brutus.

You stupid git, I did. Cold, hard numbers. And for once, focus your little monkey brain to the matter at hand, the matter I originally brought up:

Can you refute that? Do you have evidence to the contrary? No? Then fuck the hell off.

Olentzero, do you support the violent overthrow of the US government?

Yes or no will do.

Whenever political power is “seized”, by definition, people die. (By the by, your link works about as well as your frontal lobes…)

I can understand that your political prejudices lead you to believe that all those of a political persuasion repugnant to you are, by defintion, monsters and murderers. Ain’t so, and when you grow up, perhaps you’ll be able to grasp that.

Until that time, you will be no more able to engage in meaningful dialogue than you have to date.

Gobear, I am playing that game. I did not bring up Samoza. I did not bring up what happened when Dannyboy left power. I brought up a specific cited point, which spaz-assed Elucidator failed to address in the least. The redirect may be a favored debate technique of his, but I ain’t playing along.

Brutus, your “cite” just shows up as lines on one side of my screen. Care to spell it out?

’Luci, you have to contend that revolutionary socialism does tend to be hard on the people it purports to serve. Ethiopia 1974. North Korea. Mao’s China. Stalin’s USSR. Enver Hoxha’s Albania. Benin. Vietnam. Laos.

And can we forget the People’s Republic of Kampuchea 1975-1979? I’ve been to Tuol Sleng and seen the piled skulls and the photos of the people tortured, mutilated, and murdered there by revolutionary socialists.

What the two of you forget is that trying to defend despots who happen to be one’s ideological allies is a fool’s game. Right or Left, if a government robs and kills the people it ought to protect, a person of conscience ought to denounce it.

Oh. Well. It’s all A-OK then, huh?

If your browser tries to compress the image to fit the screen, let your cursor hover over the image. In IE, you will get a little box in the bottom right corner which you click, and Voila! Normal size. If in Mozilla, just hover the cursor until it turns into a magnifying glass, and again, voila!.

Sure. Got no axe to grind, my views are lefty. In my view of history, most revolutions are well begun and well intended, but are seized by “leaders” who’s ideology has no basis in morality and have no overiding interest save the excercise in power. The Russian Revolution is the classic example, as was the French. The actual liberation of The People is best acheived by way of evolution, revolution offers too many openings for the oportunistic and power hungry, and should be regarded as the very, very last resort.

In the instances of the Central American dictatorships, I believe the record supports the contention that no other choice was available. As freind Gobear notes, the Samoza regime was criminal and despotic in every sense of the word, there was no other option. Revolution is not progress, revolution is tragedy, peace is progress. But I am entirely with Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Paine: if the government will not be reformed, it may be legitimately abolished. And a moral and decent man is obliged to do so, to the extent of his ability.

Well Olentzero, as many people think it says in the US constitution:

From each according to his abilities
To each according to his needs.

I hope you prosper, and get your needs met.

HAHAHAHA. That’s a good one.

It’s so fucking predictable. We have another post from Olentzerp about 20 hours after his final good-bye. What a joke. Why should Lynn discontinue your ability to [post? Just fucking leave and don’t come back. Come next April, you won’t have paid your dues and your membership will have lapsed.
