So I’m finally doing it. I’ve been wanting a tattoo for several years now and now I’m finally gonna get one. I started seriously thinking about what I wanted last spring/summer and I decided I wanted a fairy (an Amy Brown to be exact) problem was I couldn’t decide what fairy I wanted because I liked so many equally. So I decided to set the fairy idea aside until I came across one that really stuck with me more than the others. That however didn’t satisfy my desire for a tattoo.
So I start looking and thinking and pondering on what else I could possibly live with for the rest of my life. About sever or eight months ago it hit me. Alice in Wonderland. It’s one of my all time favorite books and I simply adore it to death. Particularly Chapter 5, Advice from a Caterpillar. I decided since I enjoyed that part of the book so much I would get an Alice and the Caterpillar tattoo (on the lower part of my right shoulder blade). This is what I’m getting. It will be a bit smaller than the picture and I’m not getting the background, just Alice, the Caterpillar on his mushroom and his hooka and the little bit of grass they’re standing on.
I’m really exicted about this. I’ve sat on the idea and thought about it long and hard and I’ve decided this is what I want. The guy at the tattoo place today took a copy of the picture and he’s drawing it up for me tonight so it’ll be ready tomorrow. He seemed enthused about it as well. It’ll cost me a 130 smackers but good work doesn’t come cheap. Which is what I told my mom after she said “Are you out of your mind?!” when I told her the price. Not that I expected any less from her.
Anywho, I’m really excited about this but I’ll be damned if I’m not worried about the pain. So please, please just tell me how much it doesn’t hurt. Tell me it’s like a massage or swimming in a pool filled with cool whip. I don’t care, lie to me, just please tell me it won’t hurt as bad as I think it will.
oooh! I love that pic! I drew a copy of it for a friend: pic
I’ve got four tattoos, and I’ve got a whole backpiece/sleeve planned out. Here’s a pic of my ankles. It doesn’t hurt much, but it’s not without some pain.
The best I can relate it to would be a really bad sunburn being scratched with a pencil. It gets sore after a short time, and if you plan on getting color work it’s definitely a bit more painful. Since your design is black/grey it shouldn’t be as bad. The outlining is actually relatively easy.
And if you need something to look forward to, it feels really yummy to smear aloe all over it when its over. Nice and tingly and refreshing.
Good luck, and take some pics to show us when it’s done!
Actually mine didn’t hurt at all. I had to stop myself from giggling while it was getting done. I found it ticklish and mine was only a little higher up than yours will be. Stung a little afterwards but no more than a scrape will. YMMV.
Of course I had tons of people telling me it would hurt like a bitch but I somehow suspect labor will hurt *much/i] more than anyone will tell me it will. Even with horror stories!
My tattoos hurt like hell, which is one reason I got them. Each time (I have three) I was so pissed off about something I went and got the tat just to distract me. Worked, too!
That picture you want is rather intricate. If you are capable of feeling pain, you will be in for some.
XJETGIRLX, I don’t have a foot fetish or anything, but I think your feet are kind of sexy. :o
Mine hurt like a motherfucker. Fortunatly, it was very, very small. If you want one that really doesn’t hurt at all, get it either on the top of your foot, or the bottom of your foot along the arch.
Agreed.
It’s all gonna depend for every tattoo on how long it takes and where you get it. The one for the pic (which is bad-assed, by the way) should be relatively painless. It’s when you go for 5 hour settings that you have to be worried! By the time they’re finishing, no pain threshold left.
I have two - one on the ankle and one on the upper arm. The ankle tattoo didn’t hurt at all, the arm tattoo only hurt when they hit a nerve and then
I’m leaving in little over an hour. Surprisingly I’m not so nervous right now. I hope I can stay calm, I don’t wanna be all bouncy while I’m getting it done. That might cause a problem or two.
XJETGIRLX that drawing is excellent. I can’t wait to see how Tattoo guy drew it out. He said it’ll be pretty close to the original so that sounds like a good sign. And I agree with the guys, you got some cute feet!
I’ll come back and post pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for the advice everybody. Here’s to hoping those who said it wouldn’t hurt are right!
I have one around my entire right wrist, and it really only hurt when it was right on the bony part. the rest as someone mentioned above, only feels like a sunburn being poked. I’d get another, but it took me ten years to figure out what I wanted the first time. God knows how long it’ll take me to find something this time…
I’ll repeat again what my tattooist told me: “It’s like a cat scratching your sunburn”. Which it was - not unbearable for the most part, though you can feel a sharp pain as individual nerves get tweaked every now and again. After a few minutes, I got a good endorphin high, and didn’t want it to stop.
[Lie mode ON] Getting my second tattoo was like unto a beautiful dream, wherein the glory and the wonder of our existence on this spinning ball of rock with an iron core was vouschafed to me by a truly benignant god. Sex for me is forever ruined, as what man could possibly compare to the sweet, sweet ecstasy that is tattooing? I spend my days in an eager, nay, desperate, quest for more and larger tattoos, cost what it may. [Lie mode OFF]
The shoulder blade is a good spot for avoiding pain. My first tattoo is on my left shoulder blade and the pain was fairly minimal.
That’s exactly how it felt to me, too, dinah. I wasn’t going to reveal state secrets or anything, but if somebody really had been dragging a ballpoint pen across my skin for that long, I would have made them knock it off.
I love your ankle tats, JetGirl.
Hey, Fizzestothetop, check back in and let us know how it went!
Don’t do it. I don’t care what anyone else on this board may say, but if you ask 90% of guys will all agree that a tattoo will only make a girl look skanky. Or at the very least they will say that a tattoo never improved on a girls looks, it will only harm it.
I got my tattoo on my right shoulder, and it barely hurt. It hurt worse the higher up on my arm he got (closer to the bone), but it was never even close to serious pain. Blood was minimal, too. And I’m a total pansy when it comes to bodily harm, too. Seriously: if I could handle it, anyone can handle it.
