I'm glad Ryan Dunn is dead.

I assume he just meant that he preferred the crude humor of South Park to that of Jackass/, acknowledging that they were in the same general category.

Jesus H. Christ! That’s sure not a minor fender bender there. I think it’s safe to say he was speeding.

It’s unfortunate that he died, but about as surprising as Steve Irwin’s demise.

I’m not glad he’s dead. That’s for people who’ve done truly awful things: murderers, rapist, and people who drive like assholes in front of me. That said I’m certainly not going to mourn this guys death. I’m sad for his family and all that noise, but this guy made his money getting hurt and being stupid for the amusement of others and he died possibly intoxicated and driving way too fucking fast. In other words, he died being stupid. Thankfully he wasn’t stupid enough to do this in a residential area or when there was traffic present, but it’s still pretty god damned dumb.

So yeah. Sorry for the pain of the families, but this isn’t exactly a great loss and it’s certainly not surprising.

A bit of a mis-quote of (Clarence Darrow? Mark Twain?), but:

“I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure”

Stay classy, OP.

I dunno. I’m not going to join the glee that he’s dead, but drinking and driving is, by now, pretty well-known to be putting other peoples’ lives at hazard.

If he’d blindfolded himself and randomly fired a gun in a theater, hitting (in this case) only one other person before police gunned him down, I wouldn’t expect this level of sympathy for him. If he’d been playing Russian Roulette with other people’s children and only killed one child before the chamber with the bullet came up for him too, I wouldn’t expect this level of sympathy for him.

And that’s roughly what he was doing – playing Russian Roulette with other peoples’ children…and wives, mothers, husbands, siblings, loved ones. Just because the car doesn’t LOOK like a gun doesn’t mean it’s not a lethal weapon, used drunkenly for amusement at risk to others (I’m assuming he was driving fast for personal reasons, a.k.a amusement, but if it turns out his passenger was giving birth, I’ll apologize).

I find it real easy to picture all Ryan’s Jackass buddies standing by the highway side and laughing uproariously as his car goes flying into the woods. That was the deal with those guys, reckless was funny because somehow it always ended up with just a good bruising, no one ever was seriously hurt.

And now, this. Quite the wake-up call, especially considering someone else died at his hand and more could have still had they been near on the road. Call me crazy but I think this ends the Jackass series. How can you laugh at shit when you remember your buddy died doing something right on par. Tough lesson for them to learn but seriously, these guys have needed to grow up for a long time now.

I think it’s certainly reasonable to be more angry than sad, which was really more how I read the OP (though that may be me projecting: I can’t see being actually GLAD). If it were my friend, I’d be more angry than sad, at least for a while, and I wouldn’t want the DUI thing to just be ignored or brushed over.

I might find a silver lining in this if I thought that it would actually make someone else think a little, but all experience has shown that to not be the case.

There are still a lot of assumptions being made in this thread that he was drunk. All we know at the moment is that he had ONE beer. Is it likely that he had more? Yeah. But it’s not a certainty. People drive crazy fast without an ounce of liquor in their system as well.

(I’m also taking the bartender’s comments with a giant grain of salt - he has a fair bit of ass-covering to do if Dunn actually was drunk.)

If he had been speeding and texting and died, would the OP be glad. Does he think that people that text and drive should also drop dead in ways that don’t put others at risk?

Honestly, does it matter anymore if he was drunk or not? He was driving recklessly.

Why should I mourn the loss of a moron? The human race is better off without him. My only regret is he took someone else with him.

The bartender actually said (IIRC) he had two beers and two shots (I think I also heard him say “A couple of Coronas”) but appeared sober when he left. But yeah, he’s got some damage control to do.

I’m still interested in hearing his BAC. It’s one thing if it’s .22, but it’ll be an entirely different story if we find out it’s zero or close to it. Especially if we find out there’s more to this. Something on the car broke, or he was just doing a stupid stunt. I’d love to find out he was just trying to do something and that someone saw his passenger, for example, get out and make sure the road was clear first.

Tha doesn’t answer my question. Do you think that people that text and drive are morons too and should all die? Or do you reserve you righteous indignation for drunk drivers only? It seems like texting while driving also can impair the driver’s ability and endanger others on the road (like driving drunk).

Yes.

Not to get too graphic, but looking at the photo of what’s left of his car, I can’t help but wonder if there’s enough left of him to test his BAC?

It clearly matters to the people whose criticism is that he was was drunk/DUI. Lambast him for driving recklessly - but stick to the facts as they become available.

I wondered about that as well. I suppose we’ll find out more details over the next few days. And to be even more graphic, I would assume all they’d need is a body part that wasn’t burned too badly that the coroner could get a good blood sample out of.

Guess I’m not being clear enough to forestall your equivocating. Do you think that texting drivers deserve the same death as drunk drivers?
