What’cha got cookin’?
Homemade chicken pot pie and ice cream from the local ice cream emporium.
Well, I am a Wisconsin native and whenever the Packers are playing Monday Night Football we are required to fast until 1hr prior to kick off. Only 29 more minutes and the pizza man should be here. Now I just have to wake up the beer wench.
I’ve got school tonight so it’s a pick up something quick day. Probably either Subway or Sharky’s. Hmm, six inch sub or grilled shrimp taco…I’ll decide when I get there.
I hate you all. I’ll probably have baloney on toast.
Pork steaks simmered in a tomato-based sauce, at which point I will stir in a flour and water roux, thicken, then sour cream. mmmmmmmmmmm Comfort food.
Go Pack!
You utter bastard!
No Tommy’s up here. Come to think of it, I don’t know of anyplace to get a chili burger. Dairy Queen?
I’ll probably have an avocado, and maybe a sandwich. Haven’t thought about dinner yet.
(BTW: I like the chili dogs and chili burgers at Carney’s on Sunset.)
Oh man I thought you meant Tommy’s Famous http://www.tommysfamous.com/
I was about to be jealous.
Thai ground chicken lettuce cups
The wife’s Deluxe Nachos. Yum!
You poor bastard. You have my sympathies. Myself, I am having home made burritos.
I have to agree that Carney’s has some of the best chili stuffs in the city. Their grilled hot dogs in particular are awesome.
L.A. has its advantages. The various eateries, friends, not freezing in February, lane-splitting on motorcycles… But I like it better up here.
As for dinner, I waited too long on the avocados. Had to throw them out. I had some brie on baguette slices, toasted in the oven.
Naan with pesto, supermarket Italian cheese blend, and bacon crumbles. Heated in the microwave for 1:45. Just about perfect for minimum effort.
I just had some Juanita’s Pozole de Pollo and garlic bread. Pretty tasty.
I settled on subway, six inch philly cheesesteak on flatbread. It was pretty good.
I find Carney’s to taste remarkably like Tommy’s, although I’ve only been there once. I did think their hot dogs were better than Tommy’s, though.
Also, I got to introduce not one, but TWO people to the original Tommy’s tonight. So I got to eat tasty AND be a tour guide!
Damn you, you SUCK!! I get the heebie jeebies every time I get anywhere near the California border so a visit to Tommy’s is right out, but that does NOT mean I don’t jones for those sleazy fuckers on a regular basis. My second husband grew up in LA and when we were first dating he brought me back a Tommyburger from a trip down to SoCal–I’d never had one before but I warmed that bad boy up, ate it for breakfast and immediately wanted another one. He says he decided to marry me right then…
I make a really, REALLY good fake of the chili, though, but there’s just no way to counterfeit that “been cooking in the same pot without being washed out for fifty years” taste…
Crap. Now I’m totally jonesin’ for one. You’re SO going to hell, man…
We had homemade meatballs in tomato sauce on some wide tagliatelle that I hand-cut from store bought pasta sheets. Lots of grated fresh Parmagiano on top. Goo-ood!

I made an awesome dinner last night. I had four big fat boneless pork chops that just screamed for stuffing. I’ve never made stuffed poke chops before, so I perused a few recipes, and just made it up as I went along.
I browned 4 chopped sliced of bacon and set it aside. I drained off most of the grease, and sauted 1/2 an onion, some diced celery and carrot, and 1 garlic clove, minced fine. Added poultry seasoning and thyme, salt and pepper. When all was soft, I stirred in about a cup of fresh bread crumbs (two slices - I should have used three) and moistened with a bit of chicken stock. Then I stuffed the poke chops which had been seasoned with salt and pepper.
Browned them over medium heat with a bit of olive oil, then flipped them to brown the other side. Added a little chicken stock to the pan, then covered and baked at 350° for 30 minutes.
Tender and moist and flavorful! I made the pan juices into gravy by adding a slurry of corn starch and water. I’ll leave out the bacon next time, because I couldn’t taste it at all.
Smart man, and I would have had a similar reaction.
Hey, our borders are always open.
