Today I went to KFC and had one of their new Famous Bowls. Mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, and popcorn chicken layered in a bowl and smothered in cheese. You can get it with rice, too, apparently, but I like mashed potatoes. I know the potatoes are fake and the gravy’s not as good as it used to be, but this thing was dee-licious. A homemade version (with real mashed potatoes, home-fried chicken, and cream gravy) would be better, but as fast food goes, this was great.
Unlike the loathsome McGriddle sandwich. Bee-sgusting, as my son used to say when he was little. The pancake-bun-thing is pallid and doughy, and the ‘maple syrup’ chips inside the pancake-bun-thing taste weird and chemically. It was so bad I didn’t finish the one I tried.
So, what’s your favorite and least favorite fast food dish?
Good fast food is any authentic street food. It probably wasn’t hygenically produced, probably made from questionable ingrediwnts, but mmmm when it is good it is so good.
Bad fast food is anything completely controlled in its production, like McD burgers. It has no soul or character.
Good one: I loves me some double decker tacos from Taco Hell. Smother it in fire sauce and give me a cup so I can mix the three kinds of Mountain Dew they have (three parts Baja Blast, two parts original, one part Code Red) and I’m in heaven.
Bad one: The Meatnormous breakfast sandwich from Burger King. One morning my girlfriend brought me one to make up for a fight we’d had the night before. It was so greasy and disgusting that I couldn’t finish more than a third of it. Even my cat Loki, who’ll eat any people food he can get to, sniffed it and walked away from it.
You reminded me. My beau was so excited to try the Burger King french toast breakfast sandwich and was so sad and disappointed after he got it.
I love Quizno’s sandwiches and I love Taco Bell’s plain ol’ bean burritos.
I recently tried Taco Del Mar for the first time and I thought they had excellent chips and salsa.
We get “Sonic” commercials on TV here all the time but there’s no Sonic anywhere in Washington or Oregon. We are dying to try some Sonic food when we get down to Orlando!
Burger King, on the other hand, has been dead to me ever since they starting serving those toxic potato pieces they call french fries. Ugh.
Oh, and I saw a commemercial for the Famous Bowl and thought it was an SNL style parody! The part where the worker at the counter says " do you want me pour cheese all over the top? " makes me giggle for some reason.
It’s a shameful secret I’m spilling here, but I love Arby’s roast-beef sandwiches. There’s something about weirdly iridiscent pseudo-meat prepared by ex-cons that just sends me over the edge.
Things must be a mite backwards where you are. The steak egg & cheese bagels around here have to be wiped off before they’re edible, unlike the Meatnormous sandwich.
I didn’t think it was bad. I didn’t think it was very good, either, but I didn’t think it was bad.
Like Jess, however, I thought the McGriddle was absolutely foul, and for all the same reasons.
Oh, and samm? You will love Sonic. LOVE it. But they never responded to my email to them complaining about the fact that there’s only one in Southern California, but NINE in and around Bakersfield. :dubious:
I’m going to need to see a picture of this thing. I searched, but couldn’t find one. I don’t think they’ve come to KFC in my area yet, because this is the first I’ve heard of it. Now I must have one.
No shame, Sal. The only thing better than weirdly irridescent pseudo-meat is when said meat is served with pseudo beef juice a la the french dip. I sure wish those would come back
Popeye’s mild chicken (especially the breast, since it has the most of that yummy oh-so-bad-for-you breading!)
Burritos from Chipotle.
McDonald’s fries, but I don’t eat those too often anymore.
Burritos from this little hole-in-the-wall local place called Taco Bravo.
Subs from Port of Subs (which we don’t have anywhere near us, so I don’t get them nearly often enough. Way better than Quiznos, Subway, or Togo’s).
KFC original recipe chicken and potato wedges (mmm…potato wedges…)
If chain pizza counts as fast food, I like Round Table and Pizza Hut.
Arby’s is the best fast food I’ve ever had. There is a little problem though-- recently they changed their lettuce. They went from a pile of wonderful, finely-shredded iceberg to a single piece of “decorative” lettuce (I’m not sure of its name).
The shredded stuff was wonderful. It added a nice crunchy, cool, moist texture.
The new lettuce adds nothing except that it sticks to the roof of your mouth. I think they changed because the new lettuce is prettier and healthier looking.
I kinda agree with Bippy. The best fast food is from a cart or roach-coach. That being said…I have a weakness for Taco Bell Enchiritos, McD’s fries, and In-N-Out burgers.
