I'm in the mood to watch a wacky movie--RIGHT NOW

The Emperor’s New Groove is a good movie, I agree

DOH! I will second your complaint :frowning:

You are describing a Timeless Work of Genius as a “wacky” film. I cannot let that pass.

Feel free to.

Any film that features two stoners riding a cheetah definitely fits into the “wacky” genre.

Orgazmo.

Let us know when you can’t say this any more.

Local old-school theatre just showed it at Midnight, and served cheap, big White Russians. Took my teenage son, who’s a big fan…

…and our minister. He’s in his sixties (and is quite the writer) and he slips Lebowski quotes into most sermons.

That I have to hear. “The Gospel According to the Dude”.

Usually, it was subtle, a surreptitious comment like “to use the vernacular of the day”. But we knew he was going to do it eventually…
he finally broke down and based an entire sermon on The Big Lebowski: "Now, I don’t recommend this movie to our older parishoners, because it is profane. But life is often raw … things can be profane and true…

“And you can learn to abide, like the dude.”

He contrasted The Dude’s zen-ness with some classic Walter quotes (no, not where he was smashing the sports car).
Best. Sermon. Ever. We told him he has to do a Pulp Fiction sermon next.

Greaser’s Palace.

You’ll hate me for suggesting you subject yourself to it.
.

I watched The Big Lebowski today and thought it was great! I think it will require an additional viewing, however, to fully appreciate. I rarely laugh while home alone and this movie did that (and at odd times, too…)

Want more! Keep recommending them! (This was definitely the kind of ‘wacky’ that I had in mind!)

I loved it but it is not exactly high brow.

I have no idea whether it would be available on Netflix, as it is a bit obscure: Happy, Texas.

Of course, there’s the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker ouevres
**Kentucky Fried Movie

Airplane!

Top Secret!

Naked Gun

Naked Gun 2 1/2

Naked Gun 33 1/3**

and the TV series Police Squad.
Even though it’s not by them (and some people hate it), I recommend Airplane II, which managed to carry on the same sort of wackiness, without apparent strain – that’s not an easy thing to do.

You can try the Scary Movie franchise and other such films, like Epic Movie, but they seem to be more miss that hit, with a lot more gross-out humor.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (had mainstream actors in it such as John Lithgow)

I’ve seen all of those except the Scary Movie movies. I am not a fan of horror (or gross-out humor) and so I’ve always assumed I’d probably miss all the references.

Saw Buckaroo Banzai but don’t remember much about it.

But you only saw The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
What about Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League‎?
Joke. The credits promised a sequel that didn’t pan out.

Saw Orgazmo last night. It was good but I think I’d gotten my expectations a little too high. I still really enjoyed it though. Didn’t like it as much as The Big Lebowski. More suggestions along the same line? I’m getting good stuff here!

Dodgeball
Josie and the Pussycats
Not Another Teen Movie
Summer School
Zoolander

Seconded on this! The people involved in making this film knew just how silly the whole idea of making a “Josie and the Pussycats” movie was, so they ran with that. “Branding” is taking to absurdity and beyond with the band’s airplane being one huge flying Target ad. And the boy band “Du Jour” is a hoot.

Bubba Hotep
Elvis Presley and JFK in a nursing home, fighting a mummy.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
A spoof of cheap 1950s monster flicks that captures the look perfectly. If you are into such 1950s-era Grade Z pieces like The astounding She Creature and Plan Nine from Outer Space 9both of which it parodies), this’ll be right up your alley. Otherwise you may be a bit lost.

Apparently there’s a sequel in the works, due out this summer – The Lost Skeleton Returns Again

A very, very common observation made by people about The Big Lebowski is that they like it more every time they see it. And subsequent viewings reveal all kinds of little and not so little things in the movie that tie everything together (snerk).

I’ve watched it about two dozen times and I’m still noticing details and hints that never struck me before.

ETA:

Old wacky movies, which you’ve probably seen, but I must mention:

It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
The Great Race

Of course, they’re worth mentioning several times, but I brought them up in post 11, and it was quoted in #20.

I know, there’s no reason to bring it up. But people invariably do when I do it.
